Patent number: 4305374Abstract: A factory-built fireplace having a refractory hearth floor which is supported from beneath only at the side and rear marginal edges, and is not physically connected to any fireplace structure other than a sheet metal cover plate which extends across and is supported by the front edge of the hearth. Thus, the hearth may be removed, in the event of cracking or for any other reason, and replaced simply be removing the hearth cover without disturbing other portions of the fireplace structure.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1979Date of Patent: December 15, 1981Assignee: Vega Industries, Inc.Inventor: Edwin E. Patent number: 4270515Abstract: The present invention relates to an improvement in a fireplace having a hearth and a firebox with side walls and a back wall. A pair of brackets are attached to each of the side walls and the brackets each pivotally receive a stub shaft extending from a grate within the fireplace. The grate is pivotally mounted by virtue of the stubs extending into the brackets, and the grate includes a plurality of legs which normally engage the hearth of the fireplace.Type: GrantFiled: October 11, 1979Date of Patent: June 2, 1981Assignee: Vega Industries, Inc.Inventors: Leonard J. Patent number: 4267818Abstract: A damper for movement between covering and uncovering positions with respect to a fireplace opening for draft control, includes a pair of rigid plates, one larger and one smaller in peripheral dimensions than the opening to be covered. These plates are carried loosely on a rod with a flexible disc, preferably of insulating material and of the same size as the larger rigid plate therebetween. The rod is movable either axially or pivotally to bring the flexible disc into and out of contact with the structure defining the opening through which draft is to be controlled.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1979Date of Patent: May 19, 1981Assignee: Vega Industries, Inc.Inventor: Edwin E. Patent number: 4249510Abstract: A system for providing a supply of air for supporting combustion in a fireplace from a source outside the room wherein the fireplace is installed. The outside air passes through ducts extending along each side of the fireplace and communicating with opposite ends of a manifold extending entirely across the front of the fireplace and having an open top immediately adjacent the lower, front edge of the fireplace so that air from the manifold is drawn directly into the firebox. The air may also provide cooling for the walls of the fireplace.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1979Date of Patent: February 10, 1981Assignee: Vega Industries, Inc.Inventor: Billy B. Anderson

Patent number: 4076010Abstract: A factory-built fireplace having movable spacer members associated therewith for insuring a necessary minimum clearance between portions of an outer surface of the fireplace and combustible structural members used for permanent enclosure thereof. The spacer members are formed from a single sheet or plate of metal and associated with the outer wall of the fireplace so as to be movable between folded and erected positions. When folded, as during packing and shipping, no portion of the spacer members extends an appreciable distance outwardly of the outer fireplace surface, and when erected for installation the edges of the spacer members define the closest position at which combustible framing members may be placed to the outer fireplace surface.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 1976Date of Patent: February 28, 1978Assignee: Vega Industries, Inc.Inventor: George M. Patent number: 4013059Abstract: A factory-built fireplace for permanent, fully-enclosed installation which takes cooling air from the room in which it is installed, but has no cooling air inlet openings below the front of the hearth. All necessary cooling air enters through openings in the front wall along each side of the combustion chamber into an air passage from which the major portion flows into a space under the hearth floor. After flowing centrally and rearwardly to provide the necessary cooling under the hearth, this air flows upwardly through enclosed spaces at the rear of the combustion chamber to cool this portion of the fireplace. A second portion of the air from the aforementioned air passage may enter enclosed spaces behind the side walls of the combustion chamber to provide the necessary cooling of this portion of the fireplace.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 1975Date of Patent: March 22, 1977Assignee: Vega Industries, Inc.Inventor: George M. Andrews

Patent number: 3996920Abstract: A damper construction is provided by a sheet metal plate having fixed guide members extending therefrom for sliding movement upon a pair of parallel guide tracks on each side of the plate. The tracks extend horizontally on each side of the flue opening and slope downwardly toward the upper edge of the open front of the fireplace. The plate is movable between positions fully covering and uncovering the flue opening when the guide members are disposed in the horizontal and downwardly sloping portions, respectively, of the tracks. A handle is attached at one end to the center of the front edge of the plate for limited pivotal movement about two perpendicular axes to allow access to the other end of the handle in either position of the plate, and to allow movement of the handle to a position out of the frontal fireplace opening when the plate is in the uncovering position.Type: GrantFiled: January 16, 1976Date of Patent: December 14, 1976Assignee: Vega Industries, Inc.Inventor: George M.
