Abstract: A process for improving combustion of liquid hydrocarbons and reducing NO.sub.x emissions. The process comprises burning the liquid hydrocarbon in the presence of an additive composition to improve measurably the combustion efficiency. The additive composition comprises a dicyclopentadienyliron compound in combination with a suitable organic solvent. By virtue of using the additive compound, the excess air requirements can be adjusted downwardly to reduce NO.sub.x emissions in combustion products.
Abstract: A process for improving combustion efficiency in a coal-fired furnace comprising injecting an additive composition comprising a ferrocene compound or its derivatives and an organic carrier liquid in which the ferrocene or its derivatives is soluble, has a high flash point and is an injectable liquid at operating temperatures wherein the quantity of air introduced to the furnace is reduced to low NO.sub.x emissions with minimal increase in soot emissions.
Abstract: A composition and method for reducing particulate emissions from a diesel engine without measurably increasing NO.sub.x emissions from the diesel engine comprises:(i) burning in the diesel engine in excess air a fuel oil containing 0.01 ppm to 1 ppm of iron in a compound selected from the group consisting of ferrocene and its derivatives represented by the formula: ##STR1## wherein each of R and R', independent of the other is hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl and heterocyclic.
