  • Patent number: 10721494
Abstract: The present invention relates to an image processing device and method whereby deterioration of effects of filter processing due to local control of filter processing when encoding or decoding can be suppressed. A boundary control flag generating unit of a control information generating unit generates boundary control flags based on system specification information which a system specification managing unit manages. A control unit of an adaptive filter processing unit determines a processing method for filter processing to be performed as to pixels nearby a slice boundary following the value of the boundary control flag. For example, selection is made to perform filter processing straddling slices or to perform filter processing closed at the present slice. The present invention can be applied to an image processing device, for example.

  • Patent number: 10708613
Abstract: An object of the embodiments is to achieve an improved reference picture handling. That is achieved by taking into account whether the reference pictures in the decoded picture buffer are long-term reference pictures or short-term reference pictures when determining how they should be marked when the information of the reference picture set is received. The reference pictures are marked as “used for short-term reference” or “used for long-term reference” in the Decoded Picture Buffer (DPB) depending on whether they are included as short-term pictures or long-term pictures in the RPS of a current picture.

  • Patent number: 10694185
Abstract: A length indicator associated with an encoded representation of a slice is parsed. The length indicator is indicative of a length of an extension field present in a slice header of the encoded representation. A decoder can then determine to ignore, during decoding of the encoded representation, any value of the extension field in the slice header where these values are identified based on the length indicator. As a consequence, an extension field can be added to slice headers and still enable legacy decoders to correctly decode the encoded representations.

  • Patent number: 10687084
Abstract: An image coding method using arithmetic coding. The method includes: performing arithmetic coding on a first flag that indicates whether or not an absolute value of a target coefficient in a target coefficient block is greater than 1; and performing arithmetic coding on a second flag that indicates whether or not the absolute value is greater than 2. In the arithmetic coding on the first flag and the arithmetic coding on the second flag, it is determined whether or not an immediately-prior coefficient block that has been coded immediately prior to the target coefficient block includes a coefficient having an absolute value greater than a threshold value. Based on a result of the determination, respective contexts to be used in the arithmetic coding on the first and second flags are selected.

  • Patent number: 10681362
Abstract: Methods of encoding and decoding for video data are described in which multi-level significance maps are used in the encoding and decoding processes. The significant-coefficient flags that form the significance map are grouped into contiguous groups, and a significant-coefficient-group flag signifies for each group whether that group contains no non-zero significant-coefficient flags. A multi-level scan order may be used in which significant-coefficient flags are scanned group-by-group. The group scan order specifies the order in which the groups are processed, and the scan order specifies the order in which individual significant-coefficient flags within the group are processed. The bitstream may interleave the significant-coefficient-group flags and their corresponding significant-coefficient flags, if any.

  • Patent number: 10659786
Abstract: A video bitstream is decoded by decoding, in a slice header associated with a picture, a first syntax element indicating a number of entropy slices defining a first slice. Each slice contains plural largest coding units (LCUs). A second syntax element indicates an offset with an index, and a third syntax element indicates a slice type of the first slice. When the third syntax element indicates a B slice, a flag indicating one of two coding context initialization methods to be used is decoded. When the third syntax element indicates a P slice, the coding context is initialized using one of two initialization methods. When the third syntax element indicates an I slice, the coding context is initialized using a third initialization method.

The significant-coefficient flags that form the significance map are grouped into contiguous groups, and a significant-coefficient-group flag signifies for each group whether that group contains no non-zero significant-coefficient flags. If there are no non-zero significant-coefficient flags in the group, then the significant-coefficient-group flag is set to zero. The set of significant-coefficient-group flags is encoded in the bitstream. Any significant-coefficient flags that fall within a group that has a significant-coefficient-group flag that is non-zero are encoded in the bitstream, whereas significant-coefficient flags that fall within a group that has a significant-coefficient-group flag that is zero are not encoded in the bitstream.

  • Patent number: 10623780
Abstract: A first filter decision value is calculated for a block of pixels in a video frame based on pixel values of pixels in a first line of pixels in the block. A second filter decision value is also calculated for the block based on pixel values of pixels in a corresponding first line of pixels in a neighboring block in the video frame. The first filter decision value is used to determine how many pixels in a line of pixels in the block to filter relative to a block boundary between the block and the neighboring block. The second filter decision value is used to determine how many pixels in a corresponding line of pixels in the neighboring block to filter relative to the block boundary.

  • Patent number: 10616605
Abstract: A dependency indication is signaled within the beginning of a packet, that is, within the adjacent of a slice header to be parsed or a parameter set. This is achieved, for example, by including the dependency indication at the beginning of the slice header, preferably after a syntax element identifying the parameter set and before the slice address, by including the dependency indication before the slice address, by providing the dependency indication to a NALU header using a separate message, or by using a special NALU type for NALUs carrying dependent slices.

  • Patent number: 10602156
Abstract: An encoded bitstream of data including a plurality of encoded pictures is received. It is determined whether a first instantaneous decoding refresh (IDR) picture has one or more subsequent leading pictures included in the plurality of encoded pictures based on a Network Access Layer (NAL) unit type associated with the first IDR picture. The first IDR picture occurs at a random-access point in the encoded bitstream of data. When the NAL unit type of the first IDR picture is a first value indicating that the first IDR picture has one or more subsequent leading pictures, (i) the one or more subsequent leading pictures are decoded with reference to the first IDR picture based on the NAL unit type of the first IDR picture being the first value, and (ii) an output order is generated for the first IDR picture and the one or more subsequent leading pictures such that the one or more subsequent leading pictures precede the first IDR picture in the output order.

  • Patent number: 10595024
Abstract: Methods and devices for modified coding of blocks of residuals in the case of transform skipping. To better align the data with assumptions upon which the entropy coding scheme is based, the block of residual data is permuted at the encoder prior to entropy coding. The block of reconstructed data is then inverse permuted at the decoder to recover the reconstructed block of residuals. The permutation may include 180 rotation of the block, which may be of particular benefit in the case of intra-coded residuals.
