Patent number: 5338417Abstract: Cathodic corrosion protection for surfaces of metallic substrates is provided by carrying out electrolysis, switching off the electrolysis, observing a control voltage and switching on the electrolysis again when the control voltage equals a specified critical voltage. A counterelectrode, which does not corrode significantly by an electrolyte, is provided as an anode. A surface of a substrate services as a cathode. A reference electrode provides a constant electrochemical potential relative to the electrolyte. A potentiostat brings about the electrolysis in the electrolyte. Patent number: 5325910Abstract: Disclosed is a method for continuous casting with a continuous casting annular mold. The method includes: providing a continuous annular casting mold having a superstructure secured over a chill, the superstructure including an overhang extending over the inner wall of the chill; cooling the inner wall surface of the chill; introducing a mixture of a lubricant and gas under pressure at the transition of the overhang and the inner wall surface of the chill. The mixture is introduced in a direction parallel to the inner wall surface of the chill. A molten material to be cast is introduced to the mold in a direction from above the superstructure. The cast material is drawn off from below the chill, and the mixture of gas and lubricant maintains a gap between the material to be cast and the inner wall surface of the chill. Patent number: 5133577Abstract: A refractory pipeline having ceramic pipe sections with joints therebetween located at areas where in which there are the greatest temperature differences in the pipeline. Adjacent pipe sections are connected together by shoulders at the ends of each such section, the shoulder of one pipe section being radially outside the shoulder of an adjacent section. A further pipe section is pushed over the joint so as to form a gastight seal by defining a space in communication with a borehole through the one shoulder and a peripheral groove in the other shoulder. A pressure cushion is provided in the space by applying a barrier medium under pressure to the space and thereby through the borehole to the peripheral groove.Type: GrantFiled: July 13, 1990Date of Patent: July 28, 1992Assignee: Vereinigte Aluminium-Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Werner Schultze, Stefan Schindler

Patent number: 4952539Abstract: A method is disclosed for manufacturing transparent aluminum oxide ceramic articles by sintering dry-pressed acid-containing aluminum oxide monohydrate in vacuo or in hydrogen. The method includes obtaining the acid-containing aluminum oxide monohydrate by peptisization of aluminum alkoxide with a mixture of water and acid vapor, with the acid bound to the formed monohydrate by electrostatic force. Such attachment allows ease in separation of the monohydrate crystals in water due to the polarizing effect of the acid. Subsequently, the acid-containing aluminum oxide monohydrate is gelled and dried, with the product, having an acid content of from 12 to 25%, being suitable for forming transparent ceramic articles without requiring calcination.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1989Date of Patent: August 28, 1990Assignee: Vereinigte Aluminium-Werke AktiengesellschaftInventors: Jorg F.
