Abstract: A network device, such as a Packet Data Network (PDN) Gateway (PGW), may receive network traffic, determine traffic processing services associated with a subscriber corresponding to the traffic, and identify a sequence of external traffic processing components to provide traffic processing services as though the external traffic processing components where part of the core network. The network device may modify the traffic in accordance with the sequence of external traffic processing components and forward the traffic to the first external traffic processing component of the sequence. The network device may later receive the traffic from the last external traffic processing component of the sequence, process the traffic in accordance with instructions provided by the external traffic processing components, and forward the traffic in accordance with a destination address of the traffic.
Abstract: A computer device may include a memory storing instructions and processor configured to execute the instructions to receive a request associated with a subscriber, wherein the request includes information identifying whether the user is a Fifth Generation (5G) subscriber or information identifying a gateway device associated with the user. The computer device may be further configured to select a Fourth Generation (4G) Policy and Charging Rules Function (PCRF) device or a 5G Policy Control Function (PCF) device based on the information included in the received request and forward the received request to the selected 4G PCRF device or 5G PCF device.

Abstract: An example method can include receiving, from a user equipment, single-network slice selection assistance information (S-NSSAI). The method can include determining a resource sharing configuration (RSC) associated with the S-NSSAI and determining whether the S-NSSAI is associated with a network slice instance (NSI) of the network. When the S-NSSAI is determined to be associated with a first NSI, the method can include mapping the S-NSSAI to the first NSI to permit the user equipment to communicate via the first NSI using a protocol data unit (PDU) session associated with the S-NSSAI. When the S-NSSAI is not determined to be associated with an NSI, the method can include forming a second NSI of the network according to the RSC associated with the S-NSSAI and mapping the S-NSSAI to the second NSI to permit the user equipment to communicate via the second NSI using a PDU session associated with the S-NSSAI.
