  • Patent number: 7340408
Abstract: A method and apparatus for training a neural network to compute hazard functions for customers and analyzing hazard functions, both for an individual customer, and for set of customers to focus marketing techniques. The hazard function represents the likelihood of churn for a particular customer. The gain in lifetime value is also calculated for each customer which incorporates the present value of the customer with the future value of the customer if a new contract is entered. The overall shape of the hazard function, combined with the gain in lifetime value, specifies what marketing techniques are to be applied together with what additional incentives are to be offered to the customer in order prevent churn.

  • Patent number: 7336617
Abstract: Method and apparatus for tracking, recording and distributing link state characteristics over communications networks. The invention allows network operators to efficiently define, track, store and disseminate link state characteristics using a bit-field-encoded resource record that is capable of representing many more link state characteristics than the bit-mask-encoded records used in existing systems. As a result, the present invention, when used in conjunction with standard routing and network maintenance algorithms, provides a much more efficient method than existing systems provide, for performing sophisticated networking tasks, such as handling complicated information transmission requests, setting up and tearing down network paths, and making dynamic routing decisions.

  • Publication number: 20080032669
Abstract: Techniques are described for enabling authentication and/or key agreement between communications network stations and service networks. The techniques described include the negotiation and use of a cryptographic primitive shared between a service network and a home environment of a station. The techniques described also feature a key usage indicator, such as a sequence number, maintained by the service network and a station. Comparison of the key usage indicators can, for example, permit efficient authentication of the service network.

  • Patent number: 7319973
Abstract: A new system of analyzing advertising revenue derivation is provided that is particularly useful for predicting an amount of revenue that can be expected from advertisements placed in a business directory book having a certain geographic coverage. The system comprises estimating a preference factor of advertisers located in a first geographic area of placing advertisements in other geographic areas. This preference factor, along with other demographic data, is used to calculate a choice probability that advertisers will choose to place an advertisement in one business directory book over other competing books. A total amount of expected revenue for each particular geographic area within a metropolitan area is calculated. Finally, the total amount of expected revenue attributable to a particular business directory book is predicted based on the choice probability and the total amount of expected revenue for each geographic area.

  • Patent number: 7317716
Abstract: A system and method can enable a user of a communications network, such as a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), wireless and/or voice over IP network to participate in Presence Availability Management (PAM) and Instant Messaging (IM) activities of a PAM/IM network. In response to phone network triggers, a phone network Service Control Point (SCP) can generate requests to a web server. The web server can translate the requests to presence information that can be forwarded to presence user agents for participants of the PAM/IM network. The presence user agents can present the user's presence information to participants having the user on their “buddy list”. In turn, the presence user agent for the user can forward the presence information for participants on the user's “buddy list” to a media server that can communicate the information to the user through Automatic Speech Recognition, Text to Speech and/or Dual Tone MultiFrequency technology.

  • Patent number: 7292667
Abstract: A method for transmitting synchronization information with data, which data corresponds to a sequence of samples representative of a signal, includes detecting the occurrence of two consecutive equivalent samples and inserting a synchronization pattern for the second-occurring sample prior to transmission. At a receiving end, the incoming signal is monitored to detect the presence of the sync pattern and hold the value of the receiver output at the value of the immediately previous received sample. In this manner, the signal is reconstructed without degradation, and byte synchronization information is sent without any bandwidth loss.

  • Patent number: 7284048
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for efficiently correlating network events within a data processing system and then transmitting messages to various network entities in response to an occurrence of a particular network event. According to the present invention, a network mediation service receives raw message streams from one or more external networks and passes the streams in real-time to the event notification service. The event notification service then passes the message to the message parsing service for processing. After the message has been parsed by the message parsing service, it is passed back to the event notification service which passes the message along an event channel to the network management service. The message is also passed to the event correlation service for event correlation. A knowledge-based database of message classes that define how to interpret the message text are used by the event correlation service to match correlation rule conditions to the observed events.

  • Patent number: 7274776
Abstract: Schemes for routing a call using caller identification are described herein. These schemes are termed “real caller ID” and can be capable of determining the identity of a calling party independent of a telephone number from which the call originated. According to one exemplary embodiment, a method of routing a call from a calling party to a receiving party may include accessing a database containing a plurality of voice templates of prior calling parties. Each voice template may have correlated therewith a call disposition parameter defined by the receiving party. Next, a voice response from the calling party may be compared with one of the plurality of voice templates stored in the database. Subsequently, the call may be routed to the receiving party based on a match between the voice response and the one of the plurality of voice templates.

  • Patent number: 7263178
Abstract: A method and system for administering calls on a voice network allows a user to selectively determine which calls will be accepted and assists the user in placing calls to other users on the network. The user may establish a list of users whose calls will be accepted and may also establish a list of users whose calls will not be accepted. The method and system may provide unwanted callers with an option to speak with the user for a fee. Users may establish “business card” headers, or profiles, which serve to identify the user to a called party. The user may also maintain profiles for received calls by using the “business card” header provided by the caller, or by inputting caller profiles. The method and system may also be used in conjunction with a scheduling system, such that calls amongst two or more users will be initiated at an agreed upon time.

  • Patent number: 7231612
Abstract: Methods and systems operating in accordance with the present invention provide an interactive directed data analysis tool. The tool provides a user interface that receives a model from a data mining system. The tool computes specified business metrics representing business measures of quality reflected by the model. The model parameters may be manipulated by a user. Each time parameters of a model change, the business metrics are re-computed, thereby promoting directed data understanding by allowing a user to immediately see the impact of any changes made.

  • Publication number: 20070099608
Abstract: A system and method for wireless network planning utilizing raster data, stored and manipulated in raster data planes (204-212) and vector data (522) stored and manipulated in vector data planes (528-532). The invention increases the accuracy of network planning by simultaneously utilizing vector data planes (528-532) and raster data planes (204-212) to perform computations using vector features contained within map pixels (604). The disclosed method makes it possible to perform accurate computations such as propagation loss to vector points (602) contained within map pixels (604). Accuracy is further increased because other characteristics such as received power, elevation, and best server can be computed to the vector features rather than processing them with traditional raster resolutions.
