Abstract: A device obtains an on-demand catalog associated with an on-demand media service, a broadcast schedule associated with a broadcast media service, and a status associated with a media client. Based on information contained in the status and information contained in the broadcast schedule, the device identifies a media content being played by the media client using the broadcast media service. Based information contained in the on-demand catalog, the device further identifies an on-demand option for playing the media content using the on-demand media service. The device provides, to the media client, a suggestion, identifying the on-demand option, which permits a user, of the media client, to play the media content using the on-demand media service.

Abstract: A mobile communication device may include one or more devices configured to: receive, from a server, identity information corresponding to transaction information stored on the server, the transaction information being associated with at least one transaction completed between the mobile communication device and a user device; send, to a transaction device, the identity information to establish a communication session to conduct a transaction between the transaction device and the mobile communication device; and receive, from the transaction device, a payment request associated with the transaction between the transaction device and the mobile communication device, and generated using the transaction information provided by the server.

Abstract: A method for processing media content is described. The method includes steps of receiving via a wireless network and at a content processing server media content of an activity captured by a mobile device; identifying a location of the mobile device and a location of the activity; and identifying a point of view characteristic of the received media content based on the location of the mobile device and the location of the activity. It is then determined whether the point of view characteristic of the received media content corresponds to a desired point of view of the activity. Upon determining the point of view characteristic of the received media content corresponds to the desired point of view, the content processing server selects to perform at least one of uploading and/or distributing of the media content via the content processing server to a user display device.

Abstract: A method, a device, and a non-transitory storage medium provide an extended content delivery network service in which user devices are configured as extended content delivery network devices that download and/or stream programs to other users of the extended content delivery network service. Additionally, a method, a device, and a non-transitory storage medium provide an in-home media server device that stores programs in a same format as a format of the programs stored in a content delivery network, and provide an error correction service in which a portion of a program including an error, initially received via a multicast or broadcast transmission, is replaced with a corrected portion of the program via a unicast transmission. Still further, a method, a device, and a non-transitory storage medium provide a mobile extended content delivery network device that downloads or streams programs to other users of the extended content delivery network service.

Abstract: Exemplary multi-screen casting systems and methods are disclosed. For example, systems and methods for casting a graphical user interface display of a mobile device to a display screen associated with a set-top-box device are disclosed. An exemplary method includes a multi-screen casting system establishing a multi-screen display relationship between a mobile device and a set-top-box device, identifying data associated with a graphical user interface display of the mobile device, and transmitting the identified data associated with the graphical user interface display of the mobile device to the set-top-box device for display by a display device associated with the set-top-box device. Corresponding methods and systems are also disclosed.

Abstract: A non-intrusive method of determining whether a mobile device is transmitting through a Wi-Fi router or a cellular network is described. The method includes monitoring messages relating to a wireless network. A subset of the messages including Create Session Request, and IMSI/MDN are received and later a subset of the messages including Delete Session Request, and the IMSI/MDN are received. The combination of the sets of received messages is used to determine whether the mobile device is transmitting through the Wi-Fi router or the cellular network, specifically based on the Create Session Request and the Delete Session Request.

Abstract: An approach is provided for generating a collision alert based on the stopping distance associated with a vehicle based on an identifying characteristic. The approach includes detecting an identifying characteristic of a first vehicle traveling in front of a second vehicle. The approach also includes querying for a stopping distance associated with the first vehicle based on the identifying characteristic. The approach further includes determining an approach speed at which the second vehicle is approaching the first vehicle; and generating a collision alert based on the stopping distance and the approach speed.

Abstract: An exemplary method includes a media service user interface system 1) providing a media service graphical user interface (“GUI”) for display, 2) detecting user input to launch a user interface customization mode, 3) launching the user interface customization mode, 4) receiving user input defining a customization of the GUI, 5) implementing the customization, and 6) exiting the user interface customization mode. In certain examples, the GUI may include a main menu bar that includes a set of menu objects representing a set of feature modules of the media service and a menu bar management object, the customization mode may be launched in response to a user selection of the menu bar management object included in the main menu bar, and the customization may be of the main menu bar. Corresponding methods and systems are also disclosed.

Abstract: An example of a method of keyword identification and content overlay is described. A mobile device identifies a keyword within a file containing one or more images. The identified keyword is compared to a collection of pre-stored keywords. If the identified keyword matches one of the pre-stored keywords, content corresponding to the matched pre-stored keyword is overlaid onto the image and the image with the overlaid content is displayed. A user of the mobile device can select the overlaid content to retrieve additional information related to the identified keyword.

Abstract: A method is performed in a service provider network. The method includes a network device receiving registration records for multiple machine-type communication (MTC) devices, each of the registration records including a connection profile that indicates a level of delay tolerance for connections. The method also includes receiving, by a fixed-location accepter device and via wireless signals, connection requests from the multiple MTC devices, wherein each of the connection requests includes a connection profile indicator.

Abstract: A mobile device obtains an encryption key pair, including a public key and a private key, and engages in a process, that uses the private key, for requesting a digital certificate from a Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Certificate Authority. The mobile device receives a digital certificate signed by the PKI Certificate Authority, and obtains, via a biometric input unit device, biometric data related to an identity of a user of the device. The mobile device derives a password using the biometric data, and stores, and password protects using the derived password, the public key, the private key, and the digital certificate in a secure key store.

Abstract: A device may provide a video content item for display and receive a request to share the video content item with another device for a synchronized playing of the video content item by the device and the other device. The device may generate a stream of the video content item based on a point within the video content item currently played by the device and transmit the stream to the other device to synchronize playing of the video content item by the device and the other device. The device may obtain information identifying a particular point within the video content item currently played by the other device, determine a synchronization point, in the video content item, based on the obtained information, and update, based on the synchronization point, to synchronize the stream. The device may transmit the synchronized stream, to the other device, to re-synchronize playing of the video content item.

Abstract: A machine management system provides a system and method for communicating user data with a device connected to a network. The device may register for service by the network, causing the machine management system to establish a special communications path through the network when it is determined that the device is a machine device. Thereafter, user data transmitted by the machine device (or transmitted to the machine device) may be communicated using the special communications path. In certain embodiments, the special communications path may be established such that existing network elements are not involved in the transmission of communications with the machine devices, thereby minimizing the impact on implementing the system and method on existing network elements, alleviating the burden of serving these machine devices using existing network elements and permitting the implementation of device-specific services for machine devices.

Abstract: A method and system of an embodiment may include receiving an image of printed material from a device associated with a user, receiving a request from the user to generate a training aid utilizing the printed material, generating the training aid utilizing the printed material; and providing access to the training aid to the user, wherein providing access includes one of transmitting the training aid to a device associated with the user or providing notification regarding access to the training aid to a device associated with the user.

Abstract: A method may include receiving a request for content. The content may be associated with a content availability area. User devices located inside of the content availability area may be permitted access to the content. The method may include determining a first area entirely encompassed by the content availability area and/or a second area entirely encompassing the content availability area. The method may include obtaining first location information that identifies a location of a user device. The method may include selectively obtaining second location information based on whether the user device is located inside of the first area, outside of the second area, or outside of the first area and inside of the second area. The second location information may be more precise than the first location information, and may be used to determine whether the user device is located within the content availability area.

Abstract: A system and method relate to determining am initial buffer size associated with a buffer and modifying the initial buffer size when jitter is detected. The initial buffer size may be determined and modified based on a maximum initial buffer size, and the maximum initial buffer size may be determined based on delays associated with storing data to the buffer. For example, the maximum initial buffer size may correspond to a quantity of data that can be stored to the buffer during a maximum acceptable buffering delay. The maximum acceptable buffering delay may be identified by determining drop rates associated with different buffering delays and selecting, as the maximum acceptable buffering delay, one of the buffering delays associated with a maximum acceptable drop rate.

Abstract: A method, in a multiple modem device that includes a notification modem and a Wi-Fi modem, includes identifying data to be collected and rules for selecting an optimal modem for data transmission from the multiple modem device. The method also includes collecting the data, and determining whether the data is to be sent via the notification modem based on a payload size associated with the data and the rules. The method includes sending the data via a control channel of a cellular network associated with the notification modem in response to a determination that the data to be sent via the notification modem. A determination whether a Wi-Fi network is available is made in response to a determination that the data is not to be sent via the notification modem. The data is sent via the Wi-Fi modem over the Wi-Fi network.

Abstract: A method includes receiving, from a user device associated with an end user, a request for content provided by a content provider. The method includes determining whether the requested content is to be provided on a data toll network, determining whether the requested content includes data toll free content in response to a determination that the requested content is to be provided on the data toll network, and applying graphic elements indicating data toll free status of data toll free sections of the requested content in response to a determination that the requested content includes data toll free content. The method further includes providing the requested content including the applied graphic elements to the user device, and billing data usage associated with providing the data toll free sections to the end user device to the content provider.
