Patent number: 7024200Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing a communique constituting program content concurrently delivered to a plurality of subscribers is described. Subscriber information for each of a plurality of subscribers is stored. The subscribers whose wireless subscriber devices are active in a cell are identified. Data that identifies a plurality of subscribers is automatically generated. One or more cells are selected to provide a communique to subscribers who are members of at least one community of subscribers and who are served by the selected plurality of cells, independent of the presence of subscribers who are authorized to receive said communique and who are served by other cells of the cellular communication network. Data constituting said communique from a selected program source is routed, concurrently, to authorized wireless subscriber devices.Type: GrantFiled: December 6, 2000Date of Patent: April 4, 2006Assignee: Vesuvius, Inc.Inventors: Daniel B. McKenna, James M. Graziano

Patent number: 6907023Abstract: The communique system for cellular communication networks operates with existing cellular communication networks to provide communique communication services to subscribers. The communique can be unidirectional (broadcast) or bidirectional (interactive) in nature and the extent of the communique can be network-wide broadcast or narrowcast, where one or more cells and/or cell sectors are grouped to cover a predetermined geographic area or demographic population or subscriber interest group to transmit information to subscribers who populate the target audience for the narrowcast transmissions. The communique system for cellular communication networks can dynamically allocate the available bandwidth to thereby serve subscribers with more control channel(s) and/or control channel bandwidth and/or communication channels and/or communication channels of greater bandwidth as the need presents itself.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 2000Date of Patent: June 14, 2005Assignee: Vesuvius, Inc.Inventors: Daniel B. McKenna, James M. Graziano

Patent number: 6741856Abstract: The communiqué system for private virtual narrowcasts operates with existing cellular communication networks to provide private virtual narrowcast communication services, that are initiated by a narrowcast host, to subscribers. The Communiqué can be unidirectional (broadcast) or bi-directional (interactive) in nature and the extent of the Communiqué is narrowcast, where cells and/or cell sectors are grouped to cover a predetermined geographic area or demographic population or subscriber interest group to transmit information to a private group of subscribers who populate the target audience for the narrowcast transmissions. The grouping of cells to form the communiqué coverage area for the narrowcast transmissions need not be contiguous and can comprise dynamic combinations of contiguous and non-contiguous cells as well as combinations of in-building wireless coverage areas, standard terrestrial cells, non-terrestrial cells, orchestrated in a hierarchical manner.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2001Date of Patent: May 25, 2004Assignee: Vesuvius Inc.Inventors: Daniel B. McKenna, James M. Graziano

Patent number: 6684076Abstract: The communique system for cellular communication networks that operates with existing cellular communication networks to provide communique communication services to subscribers. The Communique can be unidirectional (broadcast) or bidirectional (interactive) in nature and the extent of the Communique can be network-wide broadcast or narrowcast, where cells and/or cell sectors are grouped to cover a predetermined geographic area or demographic population or subscriber interest group to transmit information to subscribers who populate the target audience for the narrowcast transmissions. The grouping of cells to form the communique coverage area for the narrowcast transmissions can be hierarchical, using combinations of in-building wireless coverage areas, standard terrestrial cells, non-terrestrial cells, orchestrated in a hierarchical manner. The content of these transmissions can be multi-media in nature and comprising a combination of various forms of media: audio, video, graphics, text, data and the like.Type: GrantFiled: January 8, 2001Date of Patent: January 27, 2004Assignee: Vesuvius Inc.Inventors: Daniel B.
