Abstract: A mechanical coupling for joining pipe elements end to end has a channel that receives a ring seal. The channel is defined by oppositely disposed sidewalls and the ring seal has lobes on opposite sides. The lobes have surfaces facing the side surfaces of the channel. When the ring seal is seated within the channel, each lobe surface contacts a respective side surface such that the lobes deform inwardly toward the center of the channel.

Abstract: Seals for mechanical couplings and fittings have sealing surfaces with one or more projections that form closable leak paths between the coupling or fitting and pipe elements being joined. The leak paths close when the coupling or fitting is properly installed. Otherwise, the leak paths remain open to ensure that improperly installed couplings and fittings can be discovered during pressure testing and before service pressure is applied.

Abstract: A behavior inspection apparatus includes: a first measurement tool group including a set of first measurement tools each of which measures a first distance change amount that is a change amount of a distance between a first pipe position in the first pipe and a first reference position of a sleeve of the extensible flexible pipe joint; and a second measurement tool group including a set of second measurement tools each of which measures a second distance change amount that is a change amount of a distance between a second pipe poison in the second pipe and a second reference position of the sleeve. The first and second measurement tools are arranged at different positions in a circumferential direction of the sleeve. Displacement positions of the first and second pipes with respect to the joint are computed based on the measurement data by the first and second measurement tool groups.

Abstract: A fitting for joining pipe elements together includes housing portions held preassembled in spaced apart relation to permit pipe elements to be inserted without disassembly of the fitting. Elbow and tee fittings include sealing elements which support the housing portions in spaced relation. Angled surfaces on each housing portion interact with one another to rotate the housing portions in opposite directions to form a rigid joint between the fitting and the pipe elements.
Abstract: A sealing member is disclosed having an outer surface that supports segments of a pipe coupling for joining pipe elements in end to end relation. The segments are supported in spaced relation to permit the pipe elements to be inserted into the coupling without disassembly. The sealing member is a flexible ring that has conical lips around its inner circumference to engage and guide the pipe elements into the coupling. A tongue extends radially inwardly between the lips, the tongue having conical shoulders which engage and guide the pipe ends. The tongue locates the coupling segments relatively to the pipe elements.

Abstract: A valve for diverting the flow of fluid has a housing with an inlet and a plurality of outlets arranged in spaced relation around the housing. A body is positioned within the housing. The body is rotatable relatively to the housing and has an intake port and an exhaust port joined by a void space. The intake port is aligned with the housing inlet and both the intake port and the housing inlet are coaxially aligned with the axis of rotation of the body. The exhaust port is positioned eccentric to the axis and may be aligned with any one of the plurality of housing outlet ports upon rotation of the body relatively to the housing. A seal is positioned between the body and the housing. The seal surrounds the outlets and the exhaust port to prevent leakage when the exhaust port is aligned with an outlet.

Abstract: A tube is surrounded by a ring attached to a sleeve. One end of the tube is attached to a pipe of the pipeline, one end of the sleeve is attached to another pipe of the pipe line. The tube and the ring and sleeve are movable axially relatively to one another when the pipe line expands or contracts linearly. A seal between the ring and the tube ensures fluid tightness of the joint.

Abstract: A mechanical coupling for joining pipe elements has segments joined end to end, each segment having projections with surface portions oriented angularly with respect to other surface portions to serve as a guide for the insertion of pipe elements between the segments when arranged in spaced apart relation around a ring gasket. A method of assembling a pipe joint includes engaging the surfaces with ends of the pipe elements and pivoting the segments relative to one another to permit insertion.
Abstract: A sprinkler system installation for fire suppression within a cold environment uses a dry sprinkler assembly connected to a piping network by a flexible hose and supported in a substrate of a structure separating the cold environment from a temperature controlled warm environment. Sleeves of insulating material surround a conduit of the assembly and engage both the conduit and the substrate to seal and provide support. Escutcheons are also provided on opposite sides of the substrate which effect a clamping action on the assembly.

Abstract: A ring-shaped seal has projections on an outwardly facing surface in the form of tubes which have a longitudinal axis oriented perpendicular to a plane containing the ring. The seal is received within a channel defined by segments attached end to end forming a coupling for coupling pipe elements in end to end relation. The segments have pockets which receive the projections. The projections support the segments in spaced apart relation to allow the pipe elements to be inserted into the coupling without loosening or disassembling it. The projections deform when the segments are drawn toward one another by adjustably tightenable fasteners and allow the segments to engage and capture the pipe elements in end to end relation.
Abstract: A mechanical coupling for joining pipe elements has segments joined end to end, each segment having a pocket of varying depth for receiving a ring gasket. The varying depth of the pocket is used to control the distortion of the ring gasket between a round shape and a non-round shape when the segments are arranged in spaced apart relation around the ring gasket, the spacing between the segments being sufficient to permit insertion of the pipe elements without disassembly of the coupling. Notches in the projections which engage the pipe elements facilitate insertion of pipe elements and provide for a compact coupling design.

Abstract: A fire sprinkler head (12) has a valve (42) with an X-brace latch (54), and includes a flexible conduit (14). A sprinkler nozzle (16) is secured to a first end of the flexible conduit (14). The sprinkler nozzle (16) includes a first fitting (28), a sprinkler orifice (20) and fusible element (22). A second fitting (40) is secured to the second end of the flexible conduit (14) and includes the valve (42). The valve (42) has a valve element (44) which is moveable from a latched position to an unlatched position. A flexible link (56) extends from the sprinkler nozzle (16) to the X-brace valve latch (54). Breaking of the fusible element (22) releases the flexible link (56) to move from the latched position to the unlatched position, releasing the valve (42) for flow there-through.
