  • Patent number: 6718806
Abstract: An electronic locking system is provided wherein an electronic lock's restriction of movement of a locked securing member, such as a door latch or bolt, can be selectively overridden from inside a locked enclosure by manual manipulation of a handle. The handle moves the securing member to open a locked barrier even though the electronic lock remains in a locked condition.

  • Patent number: 6615625
Abstract: An electronic locking system comprises a cylinder housed within and rotatable with respect to a shell. A key has a power supply. At least one of the key and the cylinder is capable of generating a signal when the key is electrically connected with the cylinder. An electrically powered locking mechanism is housed within the cylinder and includes a lock member moveable between an open position and a locked position. The lock member in the locked position interferes with movement of the cylinder. A power source is connected to the locking mechanism in response to the signal. The locking mechanism allows movement of the lock member from the locked position to the open position in response to the signal so that the cylinder may be rotated within the shell. The cylinder further includes an interfering member that resists movement of the locking member. In addition, a biasing mechanism urges the cylinder toward a home position when the cylinder is rotated away from the home position.

  • Patent number: 6564600
Abstract: An electronic access control device has a movable locking member. A locking mechanism is operable to control the locking member. A movement detector generates a first condition in response to movement of the locking member. A key detector generates a second condition in response to detecting a key. The locking mechanism increases resistance to movement of the locking member in response to the first condition, and decreases resistance to movement of the locking mechanism in response to the second condition.

  • Patent number: 6474122
Abstract: In a first aspect, an electronic lock suitable for replacing interchangeable core locks has a solenoid assembly longitudinally aligned parallel to the rotational axis of the cylinder of the lock. In a second aspect an electronic lock has a ferromagnetic enclosure that surrounds at least a portion of a solenoid assembly when the cylinder of the lock is free to rotate.

  • Patent number: 4801789
Abstract: An exceptionally thin, replaceable reader head for an optical code reader has a thin base upon which are mounted both a light source for illuminating the codes in an edgewise direction relative to the base, and a light sensor for receiving light reflected from the codes also in an edgewise direction, the light sensor including an optical fiber for contacting the codes. Detachable electrical connectors for the light source and light sensor, respectively, extend generally in opposite edgewise directions for connection to the electrical circuits of the optical code reader. The base of the reader head contains deformable mounts for fixedly connecting the light source and light sensor to the base, as well as fiber holding structures for holding the optical fiber in a predetermined position relative to the base.

  • Patent number: 4721849
Abstract: A portable sensing device for reading data codes comprising a thin, generally planar housing of polygonal shape having a light source and light sensor at one of the corners thereof for reading data codes. The code reader contains a memory not only capable of storing the sensed data codes for future access, but capable of being programmed. A multipurpose battery charger is provided which is capable of charging multiple ones of the code readers simultaneously while receiving outputs from their memories and inputting commands or programming. Although the output from each code reader is performed optically through coded pulsing of the light source, the input occurs through the battery charger terminals, the charging current being delivered in coded pulses. Outputs from multiple code readers placed in a single charger occur sequentially in accordance with coded commands given by the charger.
