    Abstract: A method of removal of cyanide and metal ions from electroplating waste waters is described. The cyanide, as hydrogen cyanide, is purged with air and then absorbed efficiently in 1.5% sodium hydroxide solution. The purge is effected by dispersing air bubbles in the waste water after adjusting the pH of the water to one within the range of from 4 to 6.5. The cyanide ions are converted to hydrogen cyanide and entrained in the air bubbles for transport to a separate vessel for absorbtion in the sodium hydroxide solution. The apparatus employed is a closed system to avoid the hazards associated with hydrogen cyanide.

    Abstract: A split mullion window frame has opposite frame members adapted for either attaching the window frame to adjacent building structure or to an adjacent such frame. Both frame members employ a nailing flange for attaching opposite sides of the frame to a building structure. According to the invention, outer portions of the nailing flanges are removable and the inner portion of one of the nailing flanges is offset so that, having removed the outer portions, the window frame members can be nested together with their respective inner flange portions overlapping. A second set of flanges is provided. They parallel the nailing flanges but are the same length as the inner portions of the nailing flanges. The second flanges are also mutually offset so as to overlap when the frame members are nested together, thereby forming a rigid interconnection between adjacent frame members of two windows mounted side-by-side without use of a separate mullion strip.

    Abstract: A clamp includes a cushion and a strap each made from a resilient material. The cushion has a body portion and a pair of lip portions extending toward each other in spaced relationship to the body portion to define a pocket. The strap is disposed in the pocket and is bendable in a loop to retain a cable within the cushion.A pair of projections extend from the body portion at the side opposite to the lip portions. The projections are shaped to retain cables of different cross-sectional area in the space between the projections when the strap is bent in the loop. The projections define resilient springs which bend outwardly from each other to accommodate cables of different cross-sectional area.Each of the projections has a pyramidal shape and defines a shallower angle with the body portion at the inboard side than at the outboard side. The width of each projection is approximately equal to the height.

A wire holds a pair of members in a first relationship until disintegrated by electrical current. The first members retain a second member in a first relationship until the wire is disintegrated. The second member is biased for movement to a second relationship when the wire disintegrates. A third pair of members is biased to retain a fourth member in a frictional relationship. The fourth member is coupled to the first output member to move the first output member. The third member is moved by the second member out of frictional relationship with the fourth member. The fourth member is biased to move the first output member when the fourth member is released by the third member.

The carrier is an elongated trough-shaped member with a pair of side walls that can fit respectively forward and rearward of the upstanding slotted contact portions, the side carrier walls having grooves which receive the insulated wires so that when the carrier is pressed against the connector the carrier forces the wires into the slots of the contact elements. The carrier has a resilient hook at either end which engages recesses formed in the connector frame as the carrier is pressed thereagainst.

    Abstract: A tool for installing a set of wires on the rearward portion of a connector frame that has insulation-piercing contact elements for receiving the wires, including a connector-holding arm pivotally mounted on a base and a pair of wire-holding jigs mounted on the base, so that as the arm pivots the wires are severed and pressed into the connector frame. The wire-holding jigs lie on either side of the path of the arm to permit the leading portion of the arm to pass between the jigs, and the jig which holds the cut wire ends that are not installed, lies at a greater angle from the initial arm position than the other jig. The arm includes a cam for applying a large wire-installing force. The tool includes color-coded charts, each having a red or blue color for matching a red or blue cap on a connector frame, to assure that the proper chart is used.
