Patents Assigned to Viking Sewing Machines AB
  • Patent number: 6510360
Abstract: A computer is operated to produce an object-based design description file for an embroidery pattern from a vector-based stitch file describing the pattern as a sequence of stitches. The stitch file is analyzed to identify the stitch points qualifying as embroidery edge points at which the stitch direction substantially reverses. A list of these edge points is produced and the stitch file is further analyzed to identify groups of successive edge points in the list wherein the edge points of each group define an embroidery region of area filling type stitches. An object describing the respective embroidery region is then generated from the co-ordinate positions of edge points in a group.

  • Patent number: 6408775
Abstract: A sewing or embroidery machine with a microprocessor (10), which is connected to an entry device (6, 19-22) for entering commands to a display screen (5), and to at least one memory (9, 13). A rapid and understandable explanation of certain operating procedures of the machine is possible when needed. The corresponding procedure is displayed by a series of images to explain the operating procedures. Image data explaining the operation of the sewing or embroidery machine, which are read by the microprocessor (10) after entering a corresponding command and are transferred to the display screen (5), optionally after further processing, are stored for this purpose in the memory (9, 13) of the sewing or embroidery machine (1).

  • Patent number: 6276289
Abstract: A device for cutting of one or more sewing threads in a sewing machine, which operates with one under thread (15) and at least one upper thread (17), including a thread fetcher (18) which is displaceable to catch and bring with at least one of the threads to a cutting position, and a knife (26), which cooperates with the thread fetcher (18) to cut the thread or the threads. The thread fetcher is movable between the cutting position and at least one thread catching position to selectively catch the upper and/or the under thread. The device cooperates with the knot forming mechanism of the sewing device, whose gripper (12) brings the upper thread (17) in catching position. The device also enables the pulling down of the free end of the upper thread under the fabric before the sewing starts.

  • Patent number: 6148247
Abstract: A computer is operated to generate stitch data relating to an embroidery design. In the method of the invention, parameters of elements of the design are entered in the memory of the computer, said parameters being standard parameters for embroidering the design on a first type of material. First stitch data is then created in the memory of the computer for embroidering the design on the first type of material. Modified stitch data is then created in the memory of the computer for embroidering the design on a second type of material. The first stitch data or the modified stitch data, depending upon whether the design is to be embroidered onto the first type of material or onto the second type of material, is then written onto a storage medium.

  • Patent number: 6014593
Abstract: A module (1) is removably and replaceably provided on a sewing machine for domestic use and includes an electronic memory unit (4) for storing of specific stitch patterns selectable to control drive arrangements included in the sewing machine. The memory unit (4) is insertable behind a transparent front (3) provided on the sewing machine and having a touch control keyboard (31). The side of the memory unit (4) which, when inserted, is turned outwards to be visible through the keyboard (31) of the front has preprinted pattern illustrations. Each of these pattern illustrations correspond to a touch key on the front keyboard.

  • Patent number: 5899155
Abstract: A hoop for embroidery sewing comprises an outer frame (11) connected to a movable bracket (14), and an inner frame (10) adapted to be inserted into said outer frame for clamping a fabric to be embroidered therebetween. According to the invention, the outer frame has a guide device for slidably connecting the outer frame to the bracket, and the bracket has a latch device (16) for latching the outer frame in two or more predetermined positions relative to the bracket.
