Patent number: 10360578Abstract: In one aspect, an account identifier is associated with a deal purchased by a user from a deal site. The deal has a face value applicable to a transaction with a predetermined merchant, if the transaction satisfies one or more predetermined criteria. The user pays the deal site an amount smaller than the face value. When the account identifier is used at a transaction terminal to initiate a payment transaction, a transaction handler determines whether the payment transaction satisfies the one or more predetermined criteria; and if so, the transaction handler provides the transaction terminal with an authorization response identifying the remaining balance, which is determined by deducting the face value from the payment transaction. The account identifier may be a one-time account number generated specifically for the deal purchased by the user, or an account number of the user used to purchase the deal from the deal site.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 2013Date of Patent: July 23, 2019Assignee: VISA INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ASSOCIATIONInventors: Gourab Basu, Ross Sakata, Michael Mori

Patent number: 10362136Abstract: Embodiments create and manage a device profile on a mobile device for continued authentication of the mobile device. The device profile includes a state assigned to a mobile device. The state of the device can be managed through the device profile. The mobile device is allowed to conduct payments based on the current state assigned to the mobile device. In response to a request to conduct a payment transaction using the mobile device, the state information in the mobile device profile is checked. The payment transaction using the mobile device is allowed when the state information indicates a trusted state. The payment transaction using the mobile device is limited when the state information indicates a suspended state. The payment transaction using the mobile device is prevented when the state information indicates an untrusted state.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2015Date of Patent: July 23, 2019Assignee: VISA INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ASSOCIATIONInventor: Gautam Tankha

Patent number: 10354250Abstract: An advertised incentive system receives advertised incentive configuration information provided by a merchant. The advertised incentive configuration information defines the content of advertised incentive banners. The advertised incentive banners are provided as needed to merchants to display on the merchant's website. Advertised incentive registration information is received from an account holder after the account holder interacts with the advertised incentive banner. Transaction information is received that contains a qualified purchase made by the account holder. The advertised incentive registration and the qualified purchase are matched. A statement credit is issued against the account holder's account and a debit is issued against the merchant's account in the amount of the statement credit.Type: GrantFiled: May 18, 2017Date of Patent: July 16, 2019Assignee: Visa International Service AssociationInventors: John Hamilton MacIlwaine, Patrick Stan, Surendra Keshan, Mark Carlson

Patent number: 10339522Abstract: A smart card transaction allows a consumer to load value onto a smart card and to make purchases using a smart card with a mobile telephone handset over the telecommunications network. For loading, the system includes: a mobile telephone handset including a card reader; a gateway computer; a funds issuer computer; and an authentication computer. The mobile telephone handset receives a request from a user to load a value onto the smart card. The handset generates a funds request message which includes the value and sends the funds request message to a funds issuer computer. The funds issuer computer debits an account associated with the user. Next, the handset generates a load request message with a cryptographic signature and sends the load request message to an authentication computer which authenticates the smart card. The handset receives a response message which includes a cryptographic signature and an approval to load.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 2014Date of Patent: July 2, 2019Assignee: VISA INTERNATIONAL SERVICE ASSOCIATIONInventors: Steven R.
