    Abstract: The method for continuous production of a multifilament stretchable weft yarn for tire cord fabric includes swirling polyester-POY-filaments with an initial titre of from 170 to 260 dtex by means of a gas having a pressure of from 0.5 to 3 bar in a swirling nozzle, and immediately thereafter, shrinking with an overfeed of from 40 to 80% at from 220.degree. to 240.degree. C. for at least 0.2 sec to form a stretchable multifilament weft yarn. This weft yarn has a rough surface with non-slip properties, a tenacity of greater than 7 cN/tex, an elongation at break of from 170 to 270% and a thermal shrinkage at 160.degree. C. of from +2% to -2%, measured at 160.degree. C. during 15 minutes at a pretension of 0.1 cN/tex.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a polyamide-66-monofilament with improved initial modulus and with a titre of dtex 4 fl-150 fl. The strength of the monofilaments is at least 60 cN/tex for an extension of less than 25% and the specific LASE, in relation to the initial titre at 2% is at least 7.5 cN/tex, at 5% at least 18 cN/tex and at 10% at least 40 cN/tex, and the dry relaxation is less than 25%. The result is an improvement of about 40% in the LASE at 2% and an improvement of about 35% in the wet relaxation compared to standard polyamide (PA 66) monofilament. The precision fabric manufactured from the monofilaments disclosed is particularly suitable for direct use in direct printing onto woven fabrics and hollow articles.

    Abstract: The spinning pump for melt spinning of polyamides includes a back plate (5), a front plate (7), a central plate (6) extending between the front plate (7) and the back plate (5) and a pair of gear wheels (8,8'). The central plate (6) is provided with a bore (10) for feeding a melt into the central plate and another bore (10') for feeding the melt out of the central plate. The bores (10,10') each have transverse partially circular cross sections with cross-sectional areas decreasing from the front side (6') of the central plate (6) to the back side (6"). The partially circular cross sections of each of the bores (10,10') have center points on a parabolic arc or path (13b) from the front side (6') to the back side (6") of the central plate (6). This shape and structure for the bores (10,10') prevents cracked deposits from forming inside the pump channels and increases the productivity of top-quality melt extrusion by over 10%.

    Abstract: The method of making a pre-adherized polyester filament yarn with adhesion properties for rubber includes applying a pre-adherizing agent to a polyester filament yarn having a boiling water shrinkage value of <20% while spinning it at not less than 3200 m/min, heat treating the pre-adherized polyester filament yarn with hot air on a bobbin for several days at from 50.degree. to 90.degree. C., and then subjecting the conditioned POY to a single drawing step in which the take-off speed is 1.7 to 2.2 times faster than the inlet speed. Impregnated tire cord made from the polyester filament yarn so treated has a tensile strength of 60 to 70 cN/tex and a tempered shrinkage test value at 190.degree. C. of less than 3.5%, an adhesive power of 18 to 25 daN to rubber, an appearance grade of 2.5-4.0 and a dimensional stability value of greater than 24,000 cN/tex.sup.2.

    Abstract: The soil-repellent monofilament for paper machine wire-cloths consists of at least 85% by weight of polyethylene terephthalate having a viscosity index (V.I.) of at least 96 dl/g and an added copolymer prepared from alkenes and perfluoroalkenes having a melting point from 255.degree. to 275.degree. C. To make the soil-repellent monofilament 1.5 to 5% by weight of tetrafluoroethylene is included by addition to the polymer melt of polyethylene terephthalate prior to extrusion. The soil-repellent monofilament produced by this method has a soiling index of <2 after 5 soiling and cleaning cycles.

    Abstract: Process for making a polyester having polyethylene terephthalate units including transesterifying a terephthalic acid ester with a glycol using a manganese salt as catalyst and then subjecting the product to a polycondensation reaction using a germanium-containing catalyst to form a polyester; adding phosphorous compounds to block 80 to 99% by weight of the active manganese salt thus leaving an unblocked portion of the manganese salt prior to the polycondensation; and adding 10 to 100 ppm of Ge at the end of a ethylene glycol stage of the polymerization so that the Ge and the unblocked portion of the manganese salts provide the germanium-containing catalyst for the polycondensation reaction. The P/Mn molar ratio being less than 1. The reaction mixture contains 10 to 100 ppm of manganese during the reaction.

    Abstract: A process of high-speed spinning of a set of thermoplastic monofilaments having a linear density from 1 to 30 dtex, includes spinning to obtain melt-spun thermoplastic monofilaments and airblast cooling of the melt-spun monofilaments. To produce a particularly fine monofilament at high winding speeds, the process also includes guiding the thermoplastic monofilaments directly over a fork-like friction element having axially parallel, spaced apart upper and lower contacting friction surfaces during the airblast cooling, and then spin finishing and winding up the thermoplastic monofilaments. An apparatus for melt-spinning including the friction element is described. The product monofilament produced by the process can have an elongation of 20 to 45%, a strength of 36 to 60 cN/tex; a boil shrinkage of 2 to 15%; an Uster % less than 1 and a uniformly round cross section.
