  • Patent number: 8746547
Abstract: A medical-technical identification device for identifying a sterile product and a method of identifying such a product are provided. The product may be intended for one-time-use only, when connected to a piece of medical equipment. A fixedly mounted information carrier is adapted to deliver or to offer specific product information in a contactless fashion to a reading element connected to the medical equipment. The function of the identification device is improved so that even specific data can be forwarded to the medical equipment such as an infusion-type fluid pump. Thus operation of the pump may be reprogrammed, for example, to change the calibration factor or the operation mode or to change irrigation depending on the patient group to undergo surgery.

  • Publication number: 20140156042
Abstract: A disclosed device provides a trajectory detection and feedback system. The system is capable of detecting one or more moving objects in free flight, analyzing a trajectory of each object and providing immediate feedback information to a human that has launched the object into flight, and/or one or more observers in the area. In a particular embodiment, a non-intrusive machine vision system that remotely detects trajectories of moving objects may be used to evaluate trajectory parameters for a basketball shot at a basketball hoop by a player. The feedback information, such as a trajectory entry angle into the basketball hoop and/or an entry velocity into the hoop for the shot, may be output to the player in an auditory format using a sound projection device. The system may be operable to be set-up and to operate in a substantially autonomous manner.

  • Patent number: 8740888
Abstract: A system and method for altering the shape of a lamina of transparent material (e.g. the cornea of an eye), as it is being subjected to a transverse pressure differential, requires a computer controlled laser unit. In accordance with specified input parameters, the computer directs the laser unit to perform LIOB over predetermined surfaces within the lamina. This weakens the material for a desired reshaping of the lamina in response to the pressure differential. With respect to a perpendicular axis that is defined by the lamina, surfaces parallel to the axis (e.g. cylindrical surfaces) are separated from each other by about two hundred microns. For surfaces perpendicular to the axis, the separation is about ten microns. In each instance, the cuts that result from LIOB are only about two microns thick.

  • Patent number: 8741188
Abstract: The present invention provides ophthalmic devices comprising at least one photochromic material which is an indeno-fused naphthopyran having a pi-conjugation extending group bonded to the 11-position of the indeno-fused naphthopyran, the pi-conjugation extending group having at least one pendent halo-substituted group bonded thereto. The pi-conjugation extending group extends the pi-conjugation system of said indeno-fused naphthopyran. The 13-position of the indeno-fused naphthopyran is substantially free of spiro-substituents. The invention further provides photochromic materials of specified structure, photochromic compositions, photochromic articles and optical elements that include the photochromic materials. Other non-limiting embodiments relate to methods of making the ophthalmic devices comprising photochromic materials.

  • Patent number: 8744017
Abstract: A method and system for demapping a hierarchical signal is disclosed. The method includes receiving a hierarchical signal comprising first and second encoded, modulated signals. A conditional probability relating to the structure of the second encoded, modulated signal is determined. The hierarchical signal is demodulated using the conditional probability to generate a first encoded data stream. The first encoded data stream is decoded to recover information bits.

  • Publication number: 20140141197
Abstract: An open perforated assembly typically includes a film layer (26) on one side of the open perforated assembly, and an adhesive layer (32) and a release liner (42) on the other side. The layers and liner are perforated with a plurality of holes (6). The assembly is devoid of any imperforate layer. The perforated liner has a first color visible from the other side. Upon removal of the perforated release liner the appearance of the assembly from the other side is similar to the appearance before removal of the perforated liner. The assembly may be imaged by digital inkjet printing using a digital inkjet machine. Its printheads are spaced from one side of the open perforated assembly and an ink receiving surface (62) is located on the other side such that ink that is jetted from the printheads and passes through the holes in the open perforated assembly is deposited on the ink receiving surface.
