Abstract: A process for producing alumina wherein an aluminum trialkyl is reacted with a substantially water immiscible alcohol to produce an aluminum alkoxide and an alkane, the reaction between the aluminum trialkyl and the alcohol being conducted in an organic phase, the alkoxide being hydrolyzed in an aqueous phase which is in contact with the organic phase, the alumina formed by hydrolysis of the aluminum alkoxide being recovered from the aqueous phase.
Abstract: An improved process for producing a mono alkyl aromatic by reacting a mono nuclear aromatic compound and an alkylating agent under alkylation conditions to produce the reaction product comprising unreacted mono nuclear aromatic compound, alkane, mono alkyl aromatic, dialkyl aromatic and by-products, treating the reaction product to remove unreacted mono nuclear aromatic compound, free paraffin, and produce a crude product stream containing mono alkyl aromatic, dialkyl aromatic and by-products, separating the majority of the mono alkyl aromatic from the crude product stream to produce a higher boiling fraction containing a minor amount of mono alkyl aromatic, dialkyl aromatic and by-products, and separating the higher boiling fraction into a recycle stream containing mono alkyl aromatic and a by-product stream substantially free of mono alkyl aromatic, and introducing the recycle stream into the alkylation reaction.
Abstract: A process of producing a water dispersible alumina comprising forming an aqueous alumina slurry, acidifying the slurry to a pH range of from about 5 to about 8, aging the acidified slurry at elevated temperatures and for a sufficient amount of time to convert the greater portion of the alumina to a colloidal sol, recovering the sol and drying the sol to produce a highly water dispersible alumina.

Abstract: An improved method and burner apparatus for simultaneously incinerating liquid, dry gas and wet gas streams such as the vent streams in a chemical plant or the like are provided. The method comprises combining the dry gas and wet gas streams, heating the resultant combined stream to thereby prevent condensation from occurring, flowing the heated combined stream through a gas distributing nozzle means, flowing the liquid stream through a liquid atomizing and atomized liquid distributing nozzle means positioned adjacent the gas distributing nozzle means, mixing air with the gas and atomized liquid distributed by the nozzle means, and igniting and combusting the resulting air-gas-atomized liquid mixture. Burner apparatus for carrying out the method is also provided.

Abstract: Catalysts and a method of using said catalysts for the alkoxylation of a variety of materials is disclosed. Catalysts so described produce alkoxylates having a very sharp alkoxylate distribution. The catalysts are supported and unsupported dialkoxy and dialkyl metal fluorides and halides and alkyl metal difluorides and dihalides.
