  • Patent number: 8247008
Abstract: Described are digestive/laxative compositions and methods of manufacture and use of same. In a preferred embodiment, the invention provides for a digestive/laxative composition including actinidin. The actinidin is preferably contributed by inclusion of fruit of genus actinidia, or a product thereof. Preferably, the process for forming the composition includes a method in which the fruit is processed at a temperature below that causing significant degradation of actinidin present, this temperature being preferably in the range of ?40° C. to 40° C. Methods of administration of the composition are also described.

  • Publication number: 20100143319
Abstract: Extracts derived from kiwifruit are particularly useful for managing gut health and for treating or preventing digestive dysfunction and/or gastrointestinal tract disorders. In one aspect the extracts include an effective amount of prebiotic material derived from kiwifruit of the species Actinidia deliciosa (green kiwifruit). In another aspect the extracts include an effective amount of fibre, an effective amount of at least one enzyme and an effective amount of prebiotic material, all being derived from kiwifruit. These components work together to provide significant benefits to gastrointestinal health.

  • Publication number: 20080248014
Abstract: A medicament for administration to a non-human animal, wherein the medicament includes at Least partially hydrolysed protein and one or more pharmacologically active substances. In a preferred embodiment, the protein is derived from meat which is hydrolysed using a fruit-derived proteolytic enzyme such as actinidin from kiwifruit which enhances the palatability of the resulting hydrolysate. A method of manufacturing the medicament, and a method of medicating a non-human animal by administering to the animal a medicament are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080207932
Abstract: A process of producing kiwifruit seed oil involves first sterilizing the picked and selected ripe kiwifruit by flame, chlorine wash, or ozone impregnated water wash, followed by a fresh water rinse. The fruit is then cut using a water laser to minimize seed damage. Next the skin is separated from the fruit. Then the pulp is gently separated from the seed ensuring minimal seed coat damage. The resulting seed is cleaned whilst ensuring minimal seed coat damage. Then seed is then dried using cool temperature drying. The seed is stored at a cool temperature until it is needed for oil extraction. Crushing of the seed takes place immediately prior to the super critical extraction process. Super critical extraction using liquid carbon dioxide extracts the kiwifruit oil from the crushed seeds. The oil is the stabilized using a natural antioxidant such as rosemary oil.
