Patent number: 7018652Abstract: Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is a disease of the liver characterized by inflammation and damage to the liver cells. Typically, steatohepatitis involves inflammation of the liver related to fat accumulation, and mimics alcoholic hepatitis but is observed in patients who seldom or never consume alcohol. Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis can lead to serious liver damage, and ultimately cirrhosis. The present invention provides methods and compositions useful for the treatment or alleviation of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and the pharmaceutical formulations for their administration to a human. Specifically, compositions comprised of lecithin, antioxidants and vitamin B complex are administered parenterally, most preferably by oral administration. Specific therapeutic formulations include admixtures of these compounds and specific dosage formulations include daily oral administrations of these compounds in tablet or powder forms.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2003Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: Viva America Marketing, Inc.Inventors: Houn Simon Hsia, David Fan

Patent number: 6576233Abstract: The present invention solves the need for non-toxic forms of selenium which is an essential part of the human diet. This invention provides novel dried-yeast products containing selenium as well as a method of producing the dried yeast products. The method uses selenium having high biological activity but low toxicity. The invention also provides nutritional supplements containing the novel selenium containing dried yeast products and methods of administering these products and supplements to improve human health. The invention also provides a practically non-toxic yeast selenium product having increased intracellular selenium concentrations and methods to reduce tumor cell growth by administration of a selenium yeast product in combination with chemotherapeutic agents. In particular, selenium yeast product of strain ATCC 74366.Type: GrantFiled: March 5, 2001Date of Patent: June 10, 2003Assignee: Viva America Marketing, Inc.Inventors: Houn Simon Hsia, Ping Yang, Michael Arnold

Patent number: 6368643Abstract: The yeast, Saccharomyces boulardii, has been used to invent a non-toxic selenium-germanium yeast product. Culture growth conditions can influence the biosorbent selenium and germanium uptake capacity. The invention involves assimilation of selenium and germanium by the yeast under optimal conditions of incubation time, biomass concentration, reaction pH, reaction medium, and feed rate. This yeast can assimilate higher intracellular selenium and germanium by either a one-step continuous feed-batch fermentation or a two-step continuous and semi-continuous feed-batch fermentation. The invention additionally involves the novel germanium and selenium-containing yeast.Type: GrantFiled: April 23, 1999Date of Patent: April 9, 2002Assignee: Viva America Marketing, Inc.Inventors: David Fan, Ping Yang, Houn Simon Hsia

Patent number: 6221356Abstract: This invention provides a method for preparing a biologically active ginkgo biloba extract that is not subject to environmental restrictions and is efficient. The method involves extracting purified ginkgo biloba from ginkgo biloba leaf through a series of steps using alcohol as a solvent, including filtration, vacuum distillation, adsorption with silica gel, centrifugation, and chromatography. The invention also provides for a method of making dietary supplements from the ginkgo biloba product and of administering these supplements.Type: GrantFiled: December 13, 1996Date of Patent: April 24, 2001Assignee: Viva America Marketing, Inc.Inventor: Zhu Junsheng

Patent number: 6017526Abstract: Germanium-containing compounds are known to have certain therapeutic and prophylactic properties when introduced to the human body, including chemotherapeutic qualities and stimulation of the immune system. The present invention discloses human dietary supplements containing a metabolizable form of germanium-containing yeast, and methods of preparation and use thereof. Although some germanium compounds are known to be toxic, the germanium-yeast product used in the nutritional supplements of the invention are in a form which is more pure, less toxic, and metabolized more readily by the human body.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 1996Date of Patent: January 25, 2000Assignee: Viva America Marketing, Inc.Inventors: Michael Arnold, Ping Yang
