The systems and methods of the disclosure may be activated and controlled utilizing the television's remote-control device or a paired mobile device, using manual or verbal commands from the user. This results in an overall brightening of the television display or a reduction of that portion of the screen displaying the current programming, thereby exposing remaining pixels that can be independently illuminated to a greater brightness and color tinted.
