  • Patent number: 6129212
Abstract: The flotation process for separating particulate impurities from fibrous suspensions in a flotation tank. Upon or after entry into the flotation tank, the fibrous suspension added to the flotation tank may be mixed with a portion of the suspension already in the flotation tank. The portion of the suspension already in the flotation tank may be drawn into the added suspension. After mixing, the mixed suspensions enter a mixing element. The mixed suspension is expelled into the flotation tank and a circular flow pattern is generated within the flotation tank as a result. A flow speed may be limited at a top end so that an optimal mixing with the gas bubbles required for flotation may occur with a desired energy savings.

  • Patent number: 6047834
Abstract: Process for manufacturing a sifting device (or strainer baskets) for use in, e.g., in the paper industry for sorting and/or filtering fiber pulp suspensions. Sorter slits may be created between a plurality of substantially parallel rods inserted into respective insets formed in a support element. The rods may be securely held in place by first inserting the rods into the insets and then by permanently bonding the placement of the rods in the support elements with a bonding agent, e.g., as hard-soldering or brazing.

  • Patent number: 6042735
Abstract: Process and device for draining a fibrous pulp suspension. The process may include positioning two surfaces to converge in a downstream direction, feeding the fibrous pulp suspension between the two converging surfaces, driving at least one of the two converging surfaces to move the suspension with a relative translational velocity, and draining the fibrous pulp suspension through each of the two surfaces. The device may include two arcuate surfaces positioned to form converging surfaces. One of the two arcuate surfaces may include a drivable, pivotable, and rotatable cylinder having an outer sleeve with openings, the other of the two arcuate surfaces may include a screen positioned to be guided around at least a portion of the outer sleeve. The screen and the openings may form drains for draining the fluid pulp suspension.

  • Patent number: 6036029
Abstract: A device to drain a fibrous pulp suspension including an arched surface that is impermeable. The arched surface, moreover, is surrounded by a permeable belt. The belt and the arched surface are able to be moved such that there exists a relative velocity between the belt and the arched surface. The arched surface includes recesses that are able to take up quantities of fluid.

  • Patent number: 5836689
Abstract: Kneading device for high-consistency fiber pulp that includes at least two substantially rotationally symmetrical and coaxial kneading machines, that are movable relative to each other. The kneading machines may include teeth in ring-shaped tooth rows forming ring shaped gaps between the tooth rows and positioned relative to one another such that at least one tooth row of one of the at least two kneading machines reaches into the ring-shaped gaps of an other of the at least two kneading machines. A face side of at least a portion of the teeth may include an angled surface for diverting the fiber pulp in a transport direction, provided by a throughput of a flow of the fiber pulp through the kneading device and by relative movement between the fiber pulp and the face side. At least a portion of the teeth may include angled surfaces on a rear side. An angle .alpha.1 of a slope on the face side may differs from an angle .alpha.2 of the rear side by at least 5.degree.

  • Patent number: 5779168
Abstract: The invention is directed to a refiner and refiner tooling for economical refining of suspended fibrous material where the radial expanse of the working surfaces (7, 8) deviates from known designs in the following manner: the elevations (10, 11) forming the working surfaces, notably cutters, are several times interrupted, thereby forming grooves (16). It is possible to arrange the shorter cutters (10, 11) on the stator (3) side, on the rotor (2) side, or on both sides. These measures result in a particularly economical and uniform refining.

  • Patent number: 5770050
Abstract: An apparatus for selective particle flotation includes a static mixer connected to a flotation section in lieu thereof of the apparatus. The static mixer is disposed upstream of the flotation section in lieu thereof with respect to a direction of fluid flow through the apparatus. The static mixer mixes sludge with small gas bubbles. A flotation cyclone is disposed in an upstream portion of the flotation section in lieu thereof with respect to the direction of fluid flow through the apparatus. The flotation cyclone is the initial separation device through which the sludge flows.

  • Patent number: 5768783
Abstract: Method of making a flat wire of the type comprising a plurality of bars in substantially axially parallel arrangement relative to one another and including wire slots contained inbetween. Said method comprises providing a plurality of bars and providing at least two bar support members. Each bar support member includes laterally open recesses provided along a longitudinal edge of the bar support member. Each bar support member is capable of being flexed from an initial state to a final state. At the initial state, the longitudinal edge has an initial radius of curvature such that the laterally open recesses are open sufficiently to receive the bars and wherein at the final state, the longitudinal edge has a final radius of curvature larger than the initial radius of curvature such that the laterally open recesses are sufficiently closed to exert a clamping force upon the bars retained in said recesses.

  • Patent number: 5730376
Abstract: The invention is directed to a processing apparatus which can be used, for example, to disperse highly consistent fibrous paper substances. The apparatus consists of at least two intermeshed processing tools (1, 2), which are movable with respect to one another and which are provided with teeth (3, 3', 3", 4, 4"). The fibrous substance that is being processed passes along a gap between the processing tools and finally leaves the apparatus through an expulsion mechanism (8) that allows the adjustment of the size of the exit opening through which the substance exits. The control of the size of the exit opening allows control over the degree of compression acting on the substance and the fill level of the apparatus, both of which in effect control the process intensity.
