Abstract: Systems and methods of selecting a media path for data packets bearing the media of a telephone call to traverse during a voice over Internet protocol telephone call include testing the call quality of multiple potential media paths immediately before a call is setup. The potential media path with the highest call quality is used as the initial media path for the call. If the call quality of the media path currently in use declines below a threshold value during a call, potential alternate media paths are identified and tested for call quality. If one of the alternate media paths has better call quality than the media path presently in use, the call is switched to the alternate media path with the highest call quality.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for routing non-native Short Message Service (SMS) messages to a first device, the first device being assigned a native identifier and being associated with a native telephony service provider, are provided herein. In some embodiments, the method includes receiving an SMS message directed to the native identifier of the first device, determining routing instructions for the SMS message based on the native network identifier associated with the first device, and routing the SMS message to the first device based on the determined routing instructions, wherein the act of routing results in SMS messages directed to the native identifier of the first device being directed to a forwarding identifier assigned to the first device by a first non-native communication service provider.

Abstract: During setup of a telephony communication between a calling and a called party, a check is made to determine is a special message or information should be played to the calling or called party before the telephony communication is established between the calling and called parties. If so, the message or information is delivered to the party as early media. Systems and methods embodying the invention may track which messages and information have been played to individual parties to thereby avoid delivering the same message or information more than once.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for dynamically adjusting an aspect ratio of an image during a video call is described herein. Specifically, a method for dynamically adjusting the aspect ratio of an image during a video call may include obtaining at least one display parameter of a display device, performing a comparison of the at least one display parameter to at least one image capture parameter of a capture device, capturing an original image, modifying the original image based on the comparison performed, wherein the modified image has an adjusted aspect ratio different from an aspect ratio of the original image, and sending the modified image to the display device.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for generating random numbers based on packetized media data comprising querying one or more packetized media devices for a predetermined number of bits from one or more current real-time transport protocol (RTP) session, receiving the predetermined number of bits from the one or more packetized media devices, assembling the predetermined number of bits into a set of bytes; and converting the second set of bytes into a numerical value.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for identifying and displaying a set of high priority contacts on a display device associated with an end user device. In some embodiments, the method includes retrieving high priority contact list configuration settings that include one or more criteria for identifying a set of high priority contacts from a contact list having a plurality of contacts, determining whether information associated with one or more of the plurality of contacts meets the one or more criteria retrieved, identifying the one or more of the plurality of contacts that meet the one or more criteria as a set of one or more high priority contacts, and displaying the set of one or more high priority contacts in a high priority contact list on the display device.

Abstract: Systems and methods performed by an IP telephony system allow a user to request that his IP telephony device be set into a conference calling mode for an indefinite period of time. When the user's IP telephony device is in the conference calling mode, all parties that attempt to call the user's IP telephony device are added to a conference bridge tied to the user's IP telephony device. All incoming calls are treated in this fashion until the user cancels the conference calling mode and returns to a normal calling mode.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for populating a contact in an address book on a mobile computing device. In some embodiments, the method includes receiving data associated with a first entity, processing the data received to extract contact information associated with the first entity, populating a user contact entry based on the extracted contact information, and storing the populated user contact in the address book.

The mobile roaming termination service receives telephony communications directed to the forwarding access number, and then terminates the telephony communication to the mobile telephony device via any one of multiple different methods. The mobile telephony service provider can be instructed to implement and cancel call forwarding instructions by dialing a special character string on the mobile telephony device.

Abstract: A system and method for customized caller identification and call routing are disclosed. A disclosed method of providing customized caller identification information for a phone call includes associating a first phone number in a database with a plurality of user specified identifications, selecting one of the plurality of user specified identifications in response to the phone call placed from the first phone number to a second phone number as a function of the second phone number, and providing the selected one of the plurality of identifications to a device associated with the second telephone number.
