Patents Assigned to Voorheis Industries, Inc.
  • Patent number: 5207570
Abstract: A burner assembly includes a register including an annular wall defining a chamber, the annular wall including a plurality of coaxial annular bands and a plurality of parallel, axially spaced, circumferentially extending slots which separate the bands and through which air is supplied to the chamber, the annular bands forming a plurality of bluff body elements to the air, the annular bands being formed separate and independent of each other; a plurality of spacer washers inserted between adjacent annular bands to define the slots; a plurality of connecting rods extending through openings in the spacing washers for maintaining the spacing washers in a predetermined relationship and for maintaining the spacing washers between the annular bands; an oil and/or gas gun for supplying a combustible material to the chamber; and a gas pilot for igniting a mixture of the combustible material and the air in the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4690639
Abstract: In a burner gun of the type including a conduit having a gas inlet supplied with a gas and an outlet, a burner nozzle assembly includes an outlet plate secured to the outlet of the gas conduit and having a plurality of circumferentially arranged cylindrical orifices extending therethrough, the outer surface of outlet plate including a circular central portion surrounded by the orifices and operative as a bluff body, whereby positive flame retention in the range of 5 PSI to 50 PSI is obtained; a hollow cylinder having a plurality of plugs secured to an end face thereof and axially movable with respect to the orifices to vary the openings thereof so as to provide a constant velocity gas exiting through the orifices; and a piston rod connected to the cylinder and externally controlled to slideably move cylinder and thereby control movement of the orifice plugs with respect to the orifices so as to vary the openings of the latter.

Abstract: In a burner gun of the type including a conduit having a gas inlet supplied with a gas and a outlet, a burner nozzle assembly includes an outlet plate secured to the outlet of the gas conduit and having a plurality of circumferentially arranged orifices and an external end face centrally of said orifices which forms a bluff body; an adjustable cylinder having a plurality of frusto-conical orifice plugs secured to an end face thereof and axially movable with respect to the orifices to vary the openings thereof so as to provide a constant velocity gas exiting through the orifices; a guide secured centrally within and to the adjustable cylinder by means of thrust rods and slidably received within a guide sleeve in the outlet plate so as to accurately position the orifice plugs with respect to the orifices; and a piston rod connected to the guide and externally controlled to slidably move the guide within the guide sleeve and thereby control movement of the orifice plugs with respect to the orifices so as to vary

  • Patent number: 4629416
Abstract: A burner assembly includes a register having a circular front wall and an annular side wall; a plurality of cylindrical bluff body elements circumferentially spaced about the annular side wall in a plurality of axially spaced rows for supplying air to the register; fuel supply assemblies which supply at least one of coal, gas and oil to the register for mixing with the air; and a plurality of bluff body discs, each positioned within a respective bluff body element for increasing the velocity and pressure drop of the air entering the register so as to enhance mixing of the fuel and the air within the register, and to reduce the NOx.

  • Patent number: 4526322
Abstract: A burner nozzle assembly is disclosed for atomizing liquid fuel at lower emission velocities, and comprises an axially extended nozzle body and a nozzle cap mounted forwardly thereon, the nozzle cap and nozzle body cooperating to define a flow reversing fluid path for the liquid fuel, to cause the fuel to move essentially countercurrent to its initial direction of flow, and to the flow of an auxiliary fluid disposed in an outer coaxial conduit. The reversal of flow of the liquid fuel, promotes a collision between it and the auxiliary fluid, to facilitate thorough atomization, without the need for increase in emission velocities, that results in higher fuel consumption and reduced per capita fuel utilization and heat radiation. The nozzle is adapted to operate in a variety of burner assemblies, including conventional burner guns, and is of simple construction.

  • Patent number: 4395957
Abstract: A tangent spin furnace providing a combustion chamber of metal which is unlined with any refractory material but whose temperature is maintained below the self-destruct level by combustion air being introduced into the combustion chamber between a plurality of slats defining the combustion chamber and disposed in spaced relation to each other so that they define longitudinal slots. Thus there are slots for the introduction of combustion air between the slats so that a sweep of combustion air is maintained peripherally inside of the combustion chamber over virtually the entire inner surface thereof. Without refractory material lining the combustion chamber overheating is avoided by the cooling effect of the sweep of combustion air.
