  • Patent number: 8608747
Abstract: The invention provides a guide for controlling a surgical instrument, that includes a cutting member configured to resect a portion of anatomy and a sheath. The sheath may have a circular connecting portion with an inner diameter substantially the same as the outer diameter of the surgical instrument to receive the surgical instrument. The sheath may also include at least two distally extending arms connected to the circular connecting portion and a ring connected to the distal portion of the at least two distally extending arms. The sheath may also include a distally extending extension connected to the ring. The guide has a superiorly extending guard connected to the distal portion of the extension and a projection member positioned on a superior surface of the guard. The projection member includes a generally circular base and circular platform that has a diameter larger than the generally circular base.

  • Patent number: 8226727
Abstract: The present invention relates to a femoral prosthesis that includes a cement introduction port which may be used to facilitate delivery or introduction of bone cement into the prosthesis/bone interface after the prosthesis component has been placed on a resurfaced femur bone. The femoral prosthesis may have a keel with undercuts which are configured to assist in controlling the flow of bone cement during implantation and to improve stability of the prosthesis following implantation. The femoral prosthesis is suitable for implantation using arthroscopic, as well as open, surgical procedures. The present prostheses may be used as unicondylar implants in either compartment of the knee or in both compartments of the knee.

  • Publication number: 20120083789
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method of implanting a prosthesis device in a subject. In one embodiment, this method involves: (i) providing a prosthesis device to be attached to an exposed surface of a bone; (ii) applying bone cement in liquid form to a bone-implant interface region, the bone-implant interface region including a region between the exposed surface of the bone and an outer surface of the prosthesis device; and (iii) contacting the bone cement to the exposed surface of the bone and the outer surface of the prosthesis device under conditions effective to allow the bone cement to cure, thereby resulting in attachment of the prosthesis device to the bone of the subject. The present invention also relates to a kit for implanting a prosthesis device in a subject, a method of performing a joint arthroplasty surgical procedure, and other methods of using bone cement in liquid form.
