Abstract: New techniques for creating compelling extended reality (XR) environments are provided. In some embodiments, an augmented reality (AR) system controls specialized hardware including sensor(s), display(s) and/or actuator(s) to produce an AR environment with compelling display features, new data-sharing techniques, and privacy protection options for users. For example, in some embodiments, the system creates new forms of private data sharing packets, based on user behavior (e.g., during gameplay) and transfers the packets in accordance with user preference settings based on inferences from such user behavior. For example, in some embodiments, the system infers relationship statuses, interests and emotive information based on a user's gaze or other attention on an activity, environment or another user. The data sharing packets may include anonymized, abstracted components of private data.

In some embodiments, the augmented reality system creates and provides enhanced data access, permissions and experiences for users, based on different ratings of interactions between users. In some embodiments, a first such rating sets a level of access to gameplay leading to a second such rating. In some such embodiments, one user's experience related to another user is modified aesthetically, haptically or otherwise, depending on the levels granted by another user, among other factors.

In some embodiments, a VR and MR system, including a computer hardware- and software-based control system, controls a specialized headset, hand controls, and a distributed array of sensors and actuators to produce a VR or MR environment with compelling VR and MR display and social interaction features. In some embodiments, the VR and MR system creates and provides escalating levels of data access, permissions and experiences for users, based on different, multi-phased ratings. In some embodiments, a first rating sets a level of access to gameplay leading to a second rating. In some such embodiments, one user's VR or MR experience related to another user is modified aesthetically, haptically or otherwise, depending on the levels granted by another user, and other attributes.
