Publication number: 20160112166Abstract: Systems and methods of enhanced real-time communications between WiFi devices. In one embodiment of the present invention a method for enhanced payload protection in a WiFi system includes transmitting multiple copies of data packets in successive frame body transmissions. In another embodiment, a method for enhanced communications over a WiFi link includes examining a unit ID packet to determine a destination of a data payload when errors are detected in IP and/or MAC headers. If a destination is determined, the packet is corrected and forwarded to the device based on the unit ID determination. In another embodiment, a method for enhanced real-time communications in a WiFi network includes establishing a communications frame that includes an active timeslot, preferably based on U-APSD, for a WiFi device to use for transmission of successive audio data packets transmitted between the WiFi handset and AP.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 28, 2015Publication date: April 21, 2016Applicant: VTech Telecommunications, Ltd.Inventors: Sukhdeep S. Hundal, Daniel Roodnick, Bennett Cheng

Patent number: 7454001Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing caller ID information related to a third party, to a telephone user already engaged in a telephone call with a second party. A burst of FSK data is transmitted to the user during the conversation with the second party. The FSK data signal is detected and modified as it is received, such as through the addition of a melody, prior to being audibly conveyed to the telephone user. The resulting modified signal is aesthetically pleasing to the user, while indicating to the user that communications with the second party are temporarily interrupted.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2004Date of Patent: November 18, 2008Assignee: VTECH Telecommunications, Ltd.Inventors: Sukhdeep Hundal, Gary Rogaiski, Kant Wong

Patent number: 6940966Abstract: A method and apparatus for detecting a signaling tone within a communications channel, such as a telephone line, is presented. The energy level of the communications channel signal is measured at the frequency of the signaling tone and at one or more frequencies that are integer divisors of the signaling tone (i.e. at one or more subharmonics). The subharmonic energies are evaluated in determining whether the signaling tone is present. The technique can be implemented using a plurality of resonators and a comparator.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2002Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Assignee: VTech Telecommunications, Ltd.Inventors: Julian Lee, Gary Louie

Patent number: 6236326Abstract: An apparatus and method for intelligent low battery response by a wireless telephone is provided. When the wireless telephone's rechargeable battery nears depletion of energy, and a call is in progress, the party conversing with the wireless telephone user is provided with a voice notification that termination of the call due to battery depletion is imminent. When the wireless telephone's rechargeable battery pack nears depletion of energy and a call is not in progress, the wireless telephone automatically initiates call forwarding with the wireless telephone network such that calls directed to the subscriber's wireless telephone number while the battery is depleted are redirected to a different telephone number. After replacing or recharging a depleted battery pack, and repowering on the wireless telephone, call forwarding is automatically deactivated such that the subscriber can resume receiving calls at the wireless telephone number.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1999Date of Patent: May 22, 2001Assignee: Vtech Telecommunications, Ltd.Inventor: Paul A.
