Patent number: 7168209Abstract: A coping system includes a cleat mountable on a wall, a splice plate mountable over the cleat and a coping cap mountable to the cleat that is held in place by a spring between the cleat and the coping cap. In general, both the cleat and the coping cap have approximately U-shape cross-sections. The ends of the coping cap turn inwardly to form hooks that catch the ends of the cleat. The spring urges the coping cap to retain the legs of the cleat in the hooks and thus hold the coping cap to the cleat and to the wall. The splice plate is held in place on the cleat by clips that extend from the cleat and through corresponding openings in the splice plate to engage portions of the splice plate adjacent the openings, thereby preventing the splice plate from moving away from the cleat.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2004Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: W.P. Patent number: 6979705Abstract: Water-based coal tar emulsions are described which are prepared from a blend comprising coal tar, water, acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer powders and clay. After the emulsion is prepared from the blend, a rubber latex may be added to the emulsion. Films obtained from the emulsions exhibit desirable elongation and tensile properties.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2004Date of Patent: December 27, 2005Assignee: W.P. Patent number: 6578322Abstract: A roof edge system includes a water dam and a fascia secured to the water dam with spring clips. The water dam is mounted to a roof and extends upwardly to a peak before extending downwardly along the face of an outside wall. Each spring clip is mounted to the water dam, and is covered by the fascia. The fascia includes a catch that cooperates with a detent on the spring clip to hold the fascia in place. The fascia extends over the peak of the water dam and down the wall to a hook portion that hooks over an outwardly extending lip at the lower end of the water dam. The resulting system provides a hidden connection between the water dam and the fascia, is inexpensive, and can be quickly and easily assembled and disassembled without any tools, while also providing superior wind and water resistance and improving the appearance of the roof edge.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2001Date of Patent: June 17, 2003Assignee: W.P. Patent number: 6360511Abstract: A method of recoating a bitumen-based built-up roofing membrane. The roofing membrane is recoated by removing loose mineral aggregate, if any, from the surface of the existing roofing membrane, cleaning the surface of the existing roofing membrane, applying a bitumen based flood coat over the cleaned surface, and embedding a layer of mineral aggregate material into the flood coat. The flood coat comprising a coal tar composition prepared from a blend comprising from about 80 parts to about 98 parts by weight of coal tar having an overall float test of from about 50 seconds to about 220 seconds, from about 2 parts to about 20 parts by weight of coal tar pitch having a softening point of from about 140 to about 160° C., and from about 1% to about 20% by weight, based on 25 the total weight of the composition, of an acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 2000Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: W.P. Patent number: 5969013Abstract: Improved coal tar compositions are described which are prepared from a blend comprising:(A) based on the combined weight of coal tar and coal tar pitch, from about 80 parts to about 98 parts by weight of coal tar having an overall float test of from about 50 seconds to about 220 seconds,(B) based on the combined weight of coal tar and coal tar pitch, from about 2 parts to about 20 parts by weight of coal tar pitch having a softening point of from about 140.degree. C. to about 160.degree. C., and(C) from about 1% to about 20% by weight, based on the total weight of the composition, of an acrylonitrile-butadiene copolymer. In one embodiment up to 35 parts by weight of the coal tar (A) is replaced with a coal tar selected from coal tars having softening points of from about 52.degree. C.-60.degree. C., and from about 56.degree. C.-64.degree. C. The coal tar compositions are not emulsions, and generally will not contain any significant amount of water (e.g., less than 0.5% by weight).Type: GrantFiled: July 30, 1998Date of Patent: October 19, 1999Assignee: W.P.
