Patent number: 4920739Abstract: A method and apparatus for reestablishing the spinning operation at a spinning station of an open end spinning machine after a yarn break or after completion of winding of a full package. A traveling piecing unit responds to signals at a spinning station that indicate that a yarn break has occurred, that a package changing operation has occurred, or that winding of a package has been completed. Independently, a traveling package changing unit responds to a signal indicating that winding of a package has been completed at a spinning station and performs the package changing operation. When the piecing unit responds to a yarn break at a spinning station, it locates and withdraws the end of broken yarn from the package and positions it in a position where the unit then feeds the end to the spinning element to piece it with new yarn being spun and then releases it to the package, which resumes winding.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 1989Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: W. Schlafhorst & Co.Inventor: Hans Raasch

Patent number: 4921181Abstract: A yarn traverse winding apparatus for a textile machine producing cross-wound bobbins includes a yarn traversing zone having reversing points. A traction mechanism transmission has an endless traction mechanism being diverted outside the traversing zone by guide rollers between a first belt run movable in a given traversing direction and a second belt run movable parallel to the first belt run in an opposite traversing direction. The belt runs have inner surfaces facing toward each other and outer surfaces facing away from each other while in the traversing zone. Yarn are drivers mutually spaced apart along the traction mechanism and a yarn guide element transfers yarn at the reversing points from a yarn driver on one of the belt runs to a yarn driver on the other of the belt runs.Type: GrantFiled: November 25, 1988Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: W. Patent number: 4921179Abstract: A yarn end unwinding apparatus includes a support base for supporting a yarn package in an upright disposition and a cooperating member. The cooperating member at least partially circumferentially surrounds the upright yarn package and includes a plurality of jet nozzles for directing jet streams of gas interiorly of the cooperating member. The jet streams of gas combine together to form a spiraling stream of gas which causes planetary motion of the package. The package moves in contacting relation along the inner surface of the cooperating member while simultaneously rotating about the package axis and this planetary motion of the package causes unwinding of the yarn end therefrom into position for subsequent package unwinding engagement. The support base preferably includes a pair of relatively movable semi-cylindrical portions.Type: GrantFiled: June 26, 1989Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: W. Schlafhorst & Co.Inventors: Paul Surkamp, Ulrich Wirtz

Patent number: 4921180Abstract: A housing is mounted on a column outwardly of a package conveyor at the rear of the machine. A pair of support arms are connected to gears of a gear assembly in the housing and extend at a downward inclination inwardly toward the machine. One of the arms is mounted above the other arm and is longer so that package supporting rods extending from the ends of the support arms will be substantially parallel in a generally horizontal plane for receipt of packages positioned thereon at the winding station. The housing is vertically movable to lower the support arms for deposit of the package onto the conveyor. The support arms pivot through arcs sufficiently long to clear the rods of the package upon raising of the housing and connected support arms into position for receipt of the next package.Type: GrantFiled: September 2, 1988Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: W. Patent number: 4909451Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing an end winding on a bobbin on which yarn has been wound. The bobbin is wound in an unwinding direction while the trailing yarn end is engaged and a length of yarn is unwound from the bobbin by suction. The yarn is released from the suction once a length of yarn has been unwound from the bobbin, the released unwound yarn falls onto a yarn support member to be supported at a location at substantially the level of the upper end of the bobbin. The bobbin is then further rotated in the unwinding direction to wind the unwound yarn length into an end winding on the upper end of the bobbin. The yarn support member includes a pair of oppositely sloping transverse surfaces spaced lengthwise of the yarn from one another to define a receiving slot therebetween and a yarn guiding eye is disposed beneath and in communication with the receiving slot for supporting the unwound yarn length during winding of the end winding.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1989Date of Patent: March 20, 1990Assignee: W. Patent number: 4878630Abstract: In a guide roller assembly such as utilized for supporting a reciprocating yarn guide rod in a textile winding machine, the guide roller assembly having an outer shell rotatably supported on a carrier member by an interposed ball bearing assembly, problems of internal contamination of the guide roller assembly are avoided by provision of a plurality of annular projecting walls on one or both of the outer shell and the carrier member to define narrow annular spacings between the outer shell and the carrier member at the annular walls and annular air chambers in radial series between the walls. The narrow annular spacings are preferably of a maximum dimension in the range of a few tenths of a millimeter. Debris entering the interior of the guide roller assembly tends to be propelled radially outwardly and accumulates at the annular spacings to resist entry of further debris.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1989Date of Patent: November 7, 1989Assignee: W.
