  • Patent number: 5867918
Abstract: A gas dryer having a housing, an outlet chamber, a pressure relief space, and a connection connecting the outlet chamber to the pressure relief space. An outlet valve is located within the connection connecting the outlet chamber to the pressure relief space. A piston which actuates opening and closing of the outlet is subjected to pressure contained in a control chamber. This pressure urges the outlet valve into an open position. The gas dryer also has an auxiliary valve system which is located between the control chamber and the pressure relief space. The auxiliary valve system controls the flow of the pressure medium between the control chamber and the relief space.

  • Patent number: 5869742
Abstract: A method is provided for at least approximately determining the frictional value utilized between a wheel and the roadway. The method uses a vehicle weight that is determined, at least approximately, and a momentary actuating energy of a brake that is determined during a braking action. The method calculates the frictional value from the momentary actuating energy, the vehicle weight, and the wheel braking factor. In another embodiment, the method determines, at least approximately, the momentary vehicle deceleration. The frictional value is calculated from the momentary vehicle deceleration during braking and the Earth's gravitational acceleration.

  • Patent number: 5867022
Abstract: An angle-of-rotation sensor comprises a coil, a magnetically conductive element within the coil which is rotatable around an axis of rotation, the axis of rotation of the magnetically conductive element being at least partially within the coil, and a single winding for the coil. The angle-of-rotation of the magnetically conductive element is determined by measuring the change in self-inductance in the coil when the magnetically conductive element is caused to rotate.

  • Patent number: 5855460
Abstract: A screw and nut assembly comprises a screw having a hollow cavity extending longitudinally throughout, a nut configured to screw onto the screw, and an extension attached to the nut. The extension traverses the hollow cavity of the screw when the nut is placed on an end of the screw without being screwed on. The extension is displaced from the hollow cavity of the screw as the nut is screwed onto the screw. The status of the screw and nut connection may thus be determined from the screw side of the assembly, without observing the nut, by observing the extent to which the extension has emerged from the hollow cavity in the screw.

  • Patent number: 5843394
Abstract: The invention relates to an all-metal catalyst for the oxidation of gaseous sulphur compounds, more particularly hydrogen sulphide, in an oxygen-containing atmosphere, said catalyst consisting of a metal alloy of 5 to 70% by weight nickel and 30 to 95% by weight copper as residue thermally treated at temperatures of 400.degree. to 1000.degree. C. in an oxygen-containing atmosphere for 0.25 to 5 hours.

  • Patent number: 5838535
Abstract: A housing for electric componentry comprises a closed frame in which the electric componentry is received, a first electric connection element which is connected to the electric componentry and passes through a wall of the frame, a second electric connection element which is connected to the first electric connection element, and an electric connection cable which is connected to the second electric connection element. A fastening element fastens the electric connection cable to the frame of the housing in such manner that the cable lies parallel to a flat outer surface of the frame. At least a part of the fastening element is constructed integrally with the housing. In a preferred embodiment, the housing further comprises a cover attached by a hinge to the frame. Further, the fastening element comprises first and second parts which bear upon each other with the electric connection cable therebetween.

  • Patent number: 5765291
Abstract: A compressed gas system comprises a pressure generator and a consuming installation, a gas drier disposed between the pressure generator and the consuming installation, and an in-flow line connecting the pressure generator to the gas drier. Desirably, an out-flow line connects the gas drier to the consuming installation. A by-pass line also connects the pressure generator to the gas drier in parallel to the in-flow line. The by-pass line includes a pressure-controlled blocking device, such as a check valve, which allows the passage of gas from the pressure generator to the gas drier only when a predetermined opening pressure has been reached.

  • Patent number: 5700063
Abstract: A pressure medium actuated braking system comprises at least first and second braking circuits, and a multi-circuit braking power imparting device, such as a motorcar brake valve. The first braking circuit assigned to, e.g., the rear axle, has a first pressure medium storage container, at least one braking cylinder, and a first control valve system which connects the braking cylinder to the first pressure medium storage container or to a pressure medium sink (atmosphere) depending on a first control signal produced by the motorcar brake valve. The second braking circuit, assigned to, e.g., the front axle, has a second pressure medium storage container, first and second braking cylinders, and a second control valve system which connects the first and second braking cylinders to the second pressure medium storage container or to a pressure medium sink depending on a second control signal generated by the motorcar brake valve.

  • Patent number: 5681992
Abstract: A process to determine the response pressure of a brake in a braking system of a vehicle comprises: measuring the existing vehicle deceleration of the vehicle to determine a value of ground-vehicle deceleration, supplying a test pressure to the brake, measuring the deceleration of the vehicle after the test pressure has been supplied to the brake to determine a value of vehicle test deceleration, and comparing the value of ground-vehicle deceleration and the value of vehicle test deceleration. If the value of vehicle test deceleration is greater than the value of ground-vehicle deceleration by more than a predetermined tolerance value, the steps of the process are repeated with a reduced test pressure until the difference between the values of ground-vehicle deceleration and vehicle test deceleration is no more than the predetermined tolerance value.
