  • Patent number: 5782541
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for pressure control, in particular, to adjust braking pressures in a utility vehicle, are proposed. Two individual controllers (10, 11) are assigned respectively to an inlet valve (2) and to a discharge valve (3). A pilot control value consisting of a fixed value y.sub.v and of a memorized value .DELTA.y.sub.v is additively input to the output values of these controllers. The memorized components .DELTA.y.sub.v are the integration result of the I (integration) components of the individual controllers (10, 11) for the duration of a pressure increase (inlet valve) or pressure decrease (discharge valve). The memorizing process is ended after approximately five to ten brake applications and the value of .DELTA.y.sub.v which is then reached is used as an individual pilot control value.

  • Patent number: 5780732
Abstract: A process for the verification of an antilock braking system (ABS) in a vehicle to check for correct connection of the component wheel sensors (3, 4, 17, 18, 19, 20), braking pressure modulators (7, 9, 12), and brake cylinders (5, 6, 10, 11, 13, 14) is proposed. The method can be used in a new installation of the ABS or when resuming operation after repair of the system. In a first step, the user causes a single sensed wheel to rotate. This actuates a testing mode in the ABS electronic controller (8). The electronic controller (8) then actuates the modulator belonging to the rotated wheel. From the response of the sensed wheel and/or the actuated modulator, the user recognizes whether the matching between the sensor of the rotated wheel and the actuated modulator is correct. This procedure is then repeated with the other sensed wheels.

  • Patent number: 5761046
Abstract: A housing for an electrical component which protects the electrical component sealed therein and reduces mechanical stress on the electrical component includes two housing sections which are connected to each other, a support for the electrical component located within the housing, and attachment connections for mounting the housing on a mounting point, e.g., of a motor vehicle chassis. To reduce the mechanical stress imposed upon the electrical component, and to obtain a good seal of the housing interior against dirt, etc., the two housing sections are connected to each other directly or via an intermediate piece. The housing interior is sealed by one or two seals, made from elastically or plastically deformable material, which are located between the faces of the support and the housing sections associated with them. The attachment connections are located on one of the two housing sections.

  • Patent number: 5639224
Abstract: The inventive device produces compressed gas. It is provided with a compressor, wherein the compressor has a compression chamber (25), a suction chamber (10) and a pressure chamber (6). The compression chamber (25) can be connected to the suction chamber (10) via a suction valve (12, 21, 54) and to the pressure chamber (6) via a pressure valve (3). When the receiving-end pressure reaches a predetermined level, the pressure chamber (6) is connected to a compressed-air supply container (44). This connection is via a device for the discontinuation of compressing action (23, 51). In addition, the pressure in the pressure chamber (6) is monitored by a control valve (26), which is a sensing device with a control output (38). The sensing device (26) is designed to produce a control signal at the control output (38), when the pressure in the pressure chamber (6) or compression chamber (25) of the compressor reaches or exceeds a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 5560688
Abstract: A pressure control apparatus for adjusting the brake pressure in a braking system of a vehicle comprises a reservoir in which a pressure fluid is stored, an outlet through which the pressure fluid is discharged, at least one brake cylinder of the braking system, inlet and outlet valves through which the pressure fluid is supplied to and discharged from the brake cylinder, and a digital controller which controls the opening and closing of the inlet and outlet valves to minimize the deviation between an actual value and a command variable. The digital controller comprises individual controllers associated with the inlet and outlet valves. The individual controllers operate in accordance with a changeable PIDD.sup.2 control formula. The digital control further comprises a three-stage controller connected downstream of the individual controllers and adjustable low pass filters for the inlet and outlet valves. A pressure phase detector determines the current pressure phase to be set (i.e.

  • Patent number: 5544855
Abstract: A valve which is formed by a face of a valve body and the outlet area of an opening in a counterpart is disclosed. An extension dipping into the opening to ensure smooth evolution of the beginning of opening operation is known. The opening behavior achieved in this manner is not sufficient for all applications. In order to further smooth the evolution of the beginning of the opening operation, a clearance fit is provided between the extension and the opening which is interrupted by a countersink in the extension or in the opening. The countersink is formed and placed in such a manner that it comprises the counterpart of the clearance fit and at least one inclined control edge and, thereby, an adjustable choke which can be controlled in series with the valve. The countersink can take the form of a groove. Valve arrangements for compressed-air systems in motor vehicles represent a special area of application for the invention.

  • Patent number: 5503537
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gas compressor which prevents noise being produced in the suction conduit during idling. In conventional systems, the noise results from the collision of arriving and returning gas by means of a check valve provided between the suction chamber and the suction conduit. The present invention avoids this noise by providing an additional chamber which is connected via an admixture valve to the compression chamber (20) during the idling operation. This invention is especially applicable to pneumatic systems in automotive technology.

  • Patent number: 5496097
Abstract: A process and system for attaining a desired braking value is disclosed. The actual braking value is adjusted until the desired braking value is attained. Conventionally the braking hysteresis worsens the response of a brake and, thereby, worsens the quality of the regulation of a braking system with regulated braking value. Known processes reduce the brake application energy in steps if the actual braking value is too great until the braking hysteresis has been overcome and the desired braking value has been attained. Whereas, the present invention decreases the brake application energy ZS by a value (HyS+W) consisting of the braking hysteresis HyS associated with the desired braking value and a effect drop-off W. This decrease occurs in the case of excessive actual braking value BI. The process accelerates the attainment of the desired braking value BS. The preferred area of application for the invention are braking systems in the automotive industry.

  • Patent number: 5472227
Abstract: The inventive device controls the trailing axle of a vehicle having at least two rear axles, wherein at least one rear axle is a driving axle. Pressure fluid chambers, mounted on both the driving and trailing axles, support the vehicle structure. Their pressure is varied to raise or lower the vehicle structure depending on the vehicle load and road conditions. The inventive device further comprises a first valve arrangement and a second valve arrangement. The first valve arrangement selectively connects the pressure fluid chambers of the driving axle to a compressed-air supply, to a pressure fluid sink, or isolates them. The first valve arrangement has a first and a second valve. The first valve is a 3/2-position valve actuated by a first solenoid. The second valve of the first valve arrangement is a 2/2-position valve actuated by a second solenoid. The second valve arrangement is a 3-position valve actuated by a third solenoid.
