    Abstract: A process is provided for the production of a graft copolymer by means of emulsion polymerization. The graft base used is a sulfonate group-containing vinyl ester/ethylene latex which is stabilized exclusively by an anionic emulsifier (CMC.gtoreq.0.5% by weight in H.sub.2 O) and is grafted, preferably with vinyl chloride, without further addition of emulsifier or protective colloid. The graft copolymers according to the invention have good water resistance and very good thermoplastic processability. They are useful as impact modifiers and for the production of articles, such as, soft to semi-hard moldings.

    Abstract: A process for preparing an elastomer-containing vinyl chloride graft copolymer having an elastomer content of up to 65% by weight. The process comprises forming a mixture of an elastomer dispersion, water, buffer and initiator, adding a precipitating agent; after precipitation has occurred, metering into the mixture the grafting monomer and a protective colloid; and then subjecting the mixture to suspension polymerization conditions. The graft copolymeric material is useful as an impact modifier or as plasticizer-free flexible PVC.

    Abstract: Novel siloxane copolymers are described having an average of at least two alkenyloxy groups of the formula--OCHR.sup.2 CR.sup.2 .dbd.CH.sub.2,in which R.sup.2 represents hydrogen or a methyl radical.These siloxane copolymers are prepared by reacting an organic compound (1) containing more than two aliphatic double bonds of the formula OCHR.sup.2 CR.sup.2 .dbd.CH.sub.2 where R.sup.2 is the same as above, with an organopolysiloxane (2) having at least one Si-bonded hydrogen atom per molecule in the presence of a catalyst (3) which promotes addition of the Si-bonded hydrogen to an aliphatic double bond. The resultant siloxane copolymers may be crosslinked with organopolysiloxane containing Si-bonded hydrogen in the presence of hydrosilylation catalysts.

    Abstract: A carrier catalyst containing copper and alkali ions on an annular carrier of surface-active material is defined by the dimensions of the carrier body and the porosity of the finished catalyst. Its total pore volume is 0.6-1.0 ml/g, pores smaller than 4 nm diameter are not present, pores of 8-20 nm diameter constitute at least 80% of the total pore volume and the remainder consists of macropores with a diameter greater than 20 nm (i.e., up to 200 nanometers). The catalyst is suitable for the production of 1,2-dichloroethane by means of the oxychlorination of ethylene.

    Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the preparation of pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid esters using novel maleic acid esters as starting materials. In the process, in a first process step, 2,3-dihalomaleic acid esters are reacted with ammonia, or ammonium salts, with the exclusion of water at a temperature of at least 50.degree.0 C. to form novel 2-amino-3-halomaleic acid esters, and these are subsequently reacted further in a second process step with .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated aldehydes, or ketones, in the presence of an acidic catalyst and acid-binding agents at a temperature of at least 50.degree. C. with heat being supplied until the pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid esters have been formed. Pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid esters of this type can be used for example, as intermediates for synthesis of herbicides based on imidazoline. The present invention also relates to novel 2-amino-3-halomaleic acid esters, which are useful for producing the final product pyyridine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid esters.
