Abstract: A method for producing aqueous silicone emulsions containing highly viscous polyorganosiloxanes having a low content of cyclic siloxanes in several steps; the addition of acidic compounds intended to catalyze polycondensation of the polyorganosiloxanes being carried out only after an emulsion is produced in the first step exclusively with nonionogenic emulsifiers, without impairing the rate of the polycondensation reaction.
Abstract: The use of redsipersible polymer powders containing no organic emulsifier for a binder in the production of carpeting is surprisingly superior to use of the same polymers in the form of an aqueous dispersion. Tuft removal force in particular, is improved. The compositions contain no thickener, or a reduced level of thickener.

Abstract: Isocyanate-functional silanes are prepared in high yield by pyrolysis of an O-carbamate prepared by reaction of a dialkylcarbonate with an aminoalkyl-functional silane in the presence of a basic catalyst, where the catalyst is neutralized by an acid which has a pKa of all protolysis stages of not more than 4. The neutralized or partially neutralized catalyst need not be removed prior to pyrolysis. The isocyanato-functional silanes exhibit higher storage stability as compared to those prepared from O-carbamates where catalyst neutralization is effected by weak acids.
Abstract: Fired clay moldings are hydrophobicized by applying a long chain alkyl-substituted alkoxysilane or hydrolysate thereof having up to 5 silicon atoms, and an alkoxy-functional silicone resin. The moldings, which may be roof tiles, are hydrophobicized to a significant depth, without discoloration.

Abstract: Epoxy silane oligomers are prepared from a glycidoxypropyl alkoxysilane in the presence of an alcohol and an esterification and/or transesterification catalyst, and have improved storage stability. The oligomers are particularly useful as scrub-resistant additives for aqueous architectural coatings.
