  • Patent number: 5479863
Abstract: A railroad freight car includes a loading platform and two wheelsets, two double-axle running gears or two bogies, and cushioning is effected by leaf suspension springs suspended by links from spring brackets. The object of the invention is to provide a railroad freight car by using simple, economic devices, in which a facility is provided for driving the railroad freight car beneath cargoes, especially swap bodies or interchangeable containers, for raising the loading platform and, following the reception of the cargo, for lowering the loading platform back into a travel position so as to enable the railroad freight car to be loaded and unloaded independently from loading appliances extraneous to the car. This object is achieved by providing a lifting element interposed between each suspension ring and an associated spring bracket of the loading platform or of the bogie frame.

  • Patent number: 5452776
Abstract: Rail vehicles have a brake linkage being acted on by a brake cylinder for acting on at least one wheel set of a bogie, truck or running gear of the rail vehicle through brake blocks having brake block shoes and brake block shoe inserts. A block brake for rail vehicles should be economical and be constructed in such a way that higher braking capacities can be achieved, that damage to the tires of the wheels of the wheel set is avoided and that wheel noise of the wheel sets is minimized. The block brake includes at least one rotationally symmetrical brake body being fixedly disposed on a wheel set shaft of the wheel set between the wheel discs of the wheel set. The acted-on brake block rests on an outer surface of the brake body.

  • Patent number: 5448953
Abstract: A running gear unit for low-floor rail vehicles includes a running gear frame on which individual wheels are rotatably mounted through a respective rocker and the rocker is articulatingly attached and supported by primary springs. The running gear frame is connected to a car body of the low-floor rail vehicle through two articulated rods having one end being articulatingly mounted at a distance from one another on a crossmember of the running gear frame and another end being likewise articulatingly attached to the car body. The car body is supported on the running gear frame through secondary springs being mounted in pockets near transverse ends of the crossmember. Transverse stops are disposed at a distance from one another in the crossmember for limiting transverse movement of the car body relative to the running gear unit.

  • Patent number: 5415107
Abstract: A running gear for drop-frame rail vehicles includes a running-gear frame on which individual wheels are each rotatably mounted through a respective rocker and the rocker is fastened in an articulated manner and supported through primary springs. The connection of the running-gear frame to the carriage body of the drop-frame rail vehicle is provided through two articulated rods which are mounted on a crossmember of the running gear frame and which are fastened to the carriage body. The carriage body is supported on the running-gear frame through secondary springs which are mounted in pockets of the transverse ends of the crossmembers. Transverse stops which are disposed in the crossmember limit the transverse movement of the carriage body in relation to the running gear. Advantageously, the individual wheel and the drive of the individual wheel are mounted in the rocker in such a manner as to be connected to form a structural unit.

  • Patent number: 5351624
Abstract: A bogie or truck for high-speed rail vehicles or railway cars includes an H-shaped bogie or truck frame, primary springs cushioning the bogie frame, and a lateral bolster being movable relative to the bogie frame, receiving a coach or car body and being cushioned relative to the bogie or truck frame by air springs. The object is to provide a bogie with a low number of contact points with the coach body, which allows a configuration for rotational retardation, which has a minimum structural width and low weight, which permits small air spring bellows, which allows the installation of additional air reservoirs for the air springs below the lateral bolster and which has additional assemblies disposed at locations which keep the bearing components free from bending or torsional stresses. According to the invention, each air spring is supported directly on the side wall of the bogie frame.

  • Patent number: 5099767
Abstract: The present invention pertains to the connection of two multi-axle running gears into a running gear group for rail vehicles with low-lying platform, wherein the running gears have at least two wheel sets with small wheel base and a running gear frame consisting of side walls and crossbeams betweenn two axles. The wheel sets are mounted in the running gear frame via axle bearings, and each running gear is connected to the platform with false pivot only via a leaf spring and link suspension located transversely in front of and along each side wall. To ensure that the correct turn-out angle of each running gear and each running gear group is freely guaranteed during cornering, and at a correct axle load equalization of the running gears of each running gear group is ensured.

  • Patent number: 5024166
Abstract: A bogie for rail vehicles with a low-seated loading ramp, comprises at least two sets of wheels with a small axle base and a bogie frame comprising lateral cheeks and a traverse extending between every two axles. The sets of wheels are clamped into the bogie frame by axle bearings, and the bogie is connected to the vehicle frame merely by a carrying leaf spring carried by suspension rings. A fixing device cooperates with the suspension rungs to limit the movement of the bogie relative to the rail vehicle. The rocking or swaying properties of the bogie are optimized to improve the running behavior on straight stretches as well as on curves while providing the required transverse play of the bogie. The construction is made more favorably by employing long suspension rings.

  • Patent number: 4986707
Abstract: The invention relates to a railroad freight car having hoods covering the freight room which slide over each other and lie in one plane in the closed position. The hoods are liftable, swivelable and can be put down on rollers which engage rails by means of an actuation arrangement. The hoods, are split at their apex where they have joints and a sealing element. The railroad freight car is provided with separation walls for securing of a load. The separation walls, are movable on rollers running in rails on the freight floor, on both sides of the center portal in the freight floor and can be arrested at the bottom by releasable pegs in the floor and at the top by means of swivelable locking cams in the hood.

  • Patent number: 4955293
Abstract: The invention relates to a slider (1) for track vehicles which allows for horizontal relative movements in the longitudinal as well as in the latitudinal direction between the superstructure, such as a freight car body or another vehicle body, and the running gear or between running gear parts. The invention has the task of retaining the effect of the friction in a slider of the described kind in one horizontal direction while eliminating it in the other direction. This problem is solved by mounting the slider on coupling elements, which allow for a nearly unrestricted sliding of the slider within a certain range in one of the two horizontal directions (longitudinally or latitudinally) and which fix the slider rigidly in the other one of the two horizontal directions.

  • Patent number: 4723491
Abstract: A secondary suspension for a rail vehicle truck is arranged between a suspension support connected to the car body of the vehicle and a spring support. It comprises several spring groups, whose spring elements each have a set of coil springs held by an upper and a lower spring plate and a metal-rubber spring element and are individually interchangeable. The spring elements are designed so that replacement of the spring groups can be carried out with the truck installed on the vehicle and without using a pressure stand or a lift. This goal is achieved by the fact that there are at least two diametrically opposed holder claws for spring tension holders on the upper and the lower spring plate of the spring groups, to which the spring tension holders are attached when the spring elements are compressed.

  • Patent number: 4569293
Abstract: A freight car is constructed with an undercarriage having a flat cargo floor and with an upright fixed end wall at each end of the floor. A gantry in the form of an arch extends upwardly from the floor substantially centrally between the end walls and a hood support rail extends between the fixed end walls on each side of the floor. The space above the floor is covered by a hood which is of a length to extend between the gantry and one end wall and which includes a roof portion which overlies the gantry and the one end wall and side wall portions which extend downwardly from each side of the roof. The side wall portions carry rollers or casters which are engageable with the rail for supporting the hood for movement along the rail. The hood may be moved when it is in an open position along the rail for example to completely uncover the space between the gantry and one end wall.
