Abstract: A cable guide mechanism for evenly winding a cable for an electric powered vehicle onto an on-board reel having a cable guide that is reciprocated across the reel to neatly and closely wind the cable onto the reel. The cable guide is driven by a drive linkage to reciprocate in proportion to rotation of the take-up reel. The drive linkage includes a lever having a fixed pivot end and a free end attached to the cable guide. An eccentric crank driven by the rotation of the take-up reel is attached to a connecting rod that connects the end of the crank to an intermediate point on the lever arm. Accordingly, the range of reciprocation of the cable guide is substantially greater than the diameter of the path swept out by the crank, and the drive linkage may be contained in a compact package.

Abstract: A hinge assembly for an articulated vehicle having front and rear frame portions joined at a pair of vertically aligned hinges. Each hinge includes a similar roller bearing assembly attached to the front frame portion and having a rotatable protruding trunnion. The rear frame portion includes recesses for receiving the trunnions and trunnion caps for retaining the trunnions. The trunnion of each bearing assembly includes a shoulder pin with a first bearing cone placed against the shoulder and a second bearing cone spaced apart from the first cone. A spacer ring received on the pin is biased against the second cone by an end cap secured to the end of the pin. A shim pack between the end cap and the end of the pin limits the amount by which the space between the cones may be to limit and control the pre-load of the bearing assembly.

Abstract: An exhaust treatment system having a water scrubber, a centrifugal water trap for removing water droplets from exhaust flow and a filter for cleaning exhaust gases. The components are housed contiguously so that exhaust piping is not needed between the components. The water trap includes a frustoconical peripheral wall and a plurality of conduits having apertures for directing exhaust obliquely against the wall. The conduit apertures face in the same rotational direction to generate a rotational circulation of exhaust within the trap, which is entirely encircled by an annular filter. The water trap and filter are housed in a portion of the housing that is a low profile flat disc shaped to extend only a limited distance above the scrubber to which it is directly attached.

Abstract: An externally powered electric vehicle with an on-board variable speed AC drive motor drawing power from an overhead trolley line. The vehicle may include an auxiliary power source in the form of a battery or internal combustion engine for powering the vehicle when the vehicle is disconnected from the trolley line.
