  • Patent number: 4809658
Abstract: An anti-overrunning carburetion system which includes a carburetor with a throttle valve for opening and closing the venturi passage and a pressure responsive actuator having a pressure chamber for actuating the throttle valve to a closing position against a spring bias. A vibration responsive pneumatic pump, having also a pressure chamber, is connected to direct pressure directly to the pressure chamber of the actuator. A vibration sensor in the form of a spring backed ball is mounted to be subject to vibrations of an engine and is in communication with the pressure chamber of the pump and to atmosphere. In response to overrun conditions of the engine, the sensor will connect the pump pressure chamber to atmosphere and allow pressure to develop in the pressure chamber to be directed to the actuator, thus causing the actuator to reduce the throttle opening.

  • Patent number: 4796578
Abstract: An anti-overrunning system for an internal combustion engine having a throttle valve in a carburetor in which an actuator for the throttle valve is responsive to pump pressure to move the valve to a closing position. A vibrating pump responsive to engine vibration is located to direct output control pressure to the actuator. A control valve between the pump and the actuator normally blocks pressure to the actuator but is responsive to air pressure from an engine cooling fan such that, upon overrun conditions, the fan pressure will actuate the control valve to connect the pump to the actuator to cause the throttle valve to move toward a closing position.

  • Patent number: 4796582
Abstract: An anti-overrunning device for an internal combustion engine which includes a carburetor with a controlled throttle valve. An actuator for the throttle valve includes a spring-biased rod mounted on a diaphragm. The rod normally urges the throttle valve to a closing position. The actuator includes a pressure actuated diaphgram responsive to pressure from a vibrating pump. This pressure tends to open the throttle valve. A vibration sensor is positioned to relieve pressure on the diaphgram of the actuator and, in response to overrunning of the engine, causes the throttle valve to close in under the influence of the spring bias.

  • Patent number: 4770822
Abstract: A diaphragm carburetor with a fuel metering chamber designed for easy restart when hot which includes a separate escape chamber connected to the metering chamber having a second diaphragm controlled exhaust valve. The second diaphragm is subject to positive crankcase pressure during engine operation to maintain the exhaust valve closed. When the engine is stopped, the exhaust valve is opened by a spring and fuel in the metering chamber will move into the escape chamber and out of the carburetor rather than be forced into the fuel mixing passage and venturi of the carburetor. A porous absorbent material is positioned to receive the fuel leaving the open exhaust valve and to retain it until it vaporizes and dissipates through openings in the retainer atmosphere. The exhaust valve may be manually operated as an option.

  • Patent number: 4752420
Abstract: A diaphragm carburetor for small internal combustion engines of generally standard construction but improved features for facilitating hot starting due to engine heat or environmental heat which transmits to the carburetor. An automatic or manual relief passage from the diaphragm chamber relieves pressure on fuel due to heat conductors so that a rich fuel charge will not be forced into the engine but will release to atmosphere, thus permitting a normal fuel mixture to be directed to the fuel mixing passage upon a restart of the engine.
