  • Patent number: 6750395
Abstract: A wiring fitting of the type adapted to be supported in a floor opening in a floor of a building structure. The fitting includes at least one intumescent fire retarding member formed from a polymeric based intumescent material. Employing a polymeric intumescent material allows the intumescent members to be formed by molding or extruding processes. A relatively rigid intumescent material may be used to form components including a tubular insert sized for insertion into the floor opening, as well as other components that could otherwise be formed from plastic, such as the cover plate, the receptacle barrier, and the trim flange. A relatively flexible polymeric based intumescent material can be used to form seals in the fitting.

  • Patent number: 6612081
Abstract: A cover assembly is provided for preventing water infiltration into an in-floor receptacle fitting, such as a poke-thru fitting. The fitting includes an internal compartment which is accessible through an opening in the surface of the floor. The cover assembly includes a trim flange which overlies the floor opening. The trim flange supports at least one receptacle, such as a power receptacle, within the fitting such that the receptacle can be interconnected within the inner compartment with source cables that enter the fitting from below the floor, and can be interconnected from above with a connector such as a male electrical plug. A cover plate is mounted on the trim flange and overlies the receptacles carried by the fitting. The cover plate includes a plurality of access doors. Each of the access doors is movable between a first position at which it overlies an associated receptacle to prevent access thereto and a second position at which the associated receptacle is exposed and accessible from above.

  • Patent number: 6583356
Abstract: A wire protection grommet is constructed for installation in a wire pull opening in the cell of a cellular raceway. The grommet is sized for insertion through the wire pull opening and defines central passages extending through the opening. The central passage has a radiused portion defining a wire pull strain relief to prevent wires that pass through the grommet from being bent beyond a predetermined bend radius. The grommet is constructed to lockingly engage into the wire pull opening so that it is not displaced during use. The distal end of the grommet may be weighted so that the grommet correctly orients itself in the opening during installation. The grommet may also include a wire storage section around which excess wiring can be wrapped. Hooks may be provided for retaining the excess wire on the wire storage section. The grommet may include an opening or slot which extends to the central passage and which is sized to permit wires to be slid into the passage.

  • Patent number: 6552262
Abstract: An access cover for a receptacle fitting includes a cover plate connectable to the fitting at a location overlying a receptacle carried by the fitting. An access door includes a first portion slidably connected to the cover plate for movement between open and closed positions. The access door also includes a second portion having a first end pivotally connected to the access door first portion. The second end of the door second portion pivots to a first position overlying the receptacle in response to movement of the access door first portion towards its closed position, and pivots to a second position at which the receptacle is exposed and accessible through the cover plate in response to movement of the access door first portion towards its open position. Pivot features are formed on the cover plate and/or the access door for imparting rotational forces on the door second portion as the door first portion is slid between its open and closed positions.

  • Patent number: 6462277
Abstract: A cover assembly for an in-floor fitting of the type having an interior compartment which is accessible through an opening in the surface of the floor includes a bracket and a pair of access doors. The bracket is connectable to the fitting and defines an access opening which aligns with the floor opening. The access doors are pivotally connected to the mounting bracket for selectively exposing the access opening. When the doors are at their closed position, they define a cable opening between their free ends. The cable opening is sized to permit at least one cable to pass between the doors and into the interior compartment of the fitting. The access doors carry compressible seal members in their free ends which abut with one another when the doors are moved to their closed position so as to seal the cable opening around any cables passing therethrough. Egress covers are slidably connected to the access doors for selectively covering and exposing the cable opening.
