Abstract: A server communicates with mobile user devices over a communications network. The user devices are associated with respective players of a competitive activity, such as golf. Points scored by a scoring player are entered through an electronic scorecard on the user devices, but are accepted by only those user devices not associated with the scoring player. The server receives the points that were accepted by the user devices accumulates the scores. Current rankings of the respective players are determined from the accumulated scores and the rankings are displayed, such as through a leaderboard displayed on the user devices, upon demand by at least one of the user devices.
