  • Patent number: 9279248
Abstract: A seismic expansion joint cover assembly installed at an expansion gap between a first structural member on one side of a gap and a second member on the opposite side of the gap includes a cover panel bridging the gap having at least one hinged connector joining one edge of the cover panel to the first structural component to allow movement about an axis. The assembly includes at least one slide support which attaches to the second member, including an attachment flange, a track extending from the flange, and a lift component located on the track to lift the cover panel. A spring assembly attaches to the cover panel and engages the track and includes a spring plate with one or more springs attached thereto, a guide component attached to the spring plate and a saddle component having a grove to receive the guide component.

  • Patent number: 5887308
Abstract: An expansion joint system which is designed to accommodate forces applied to highway construction during normal changes in ambient conditions, and which is also designed to withstand seismic forces which may be applied in transverse and longitudinal directions. The system comprises spaced-apart transverse beams which are placed in a gap defined between adjacent sections of highway construction such as in a bridge. Longitudinally extending support bars are positioned beneath the beams, and the ends of the bars are located in the interiors of boxes associated with the highway sections. One set of boxes confines bar ends against transverse movement but permits longitudinal movement. The other set of boxes permits the transverse movement but limits longitudinal movement.

  • Patent number: 5887400
Abstract: An expansion joint control system wherein a blockout is formed between structural members such as a floor or wall and a gap allowing for expansion and contraction is defined between the structural members. The blockout defines opposed vertical faces and inwardly extending transverse surfaces with a flexible membrane spanning the distance between vertical faces. A slide plate is attached beneath the center of the membrane. Base members are positioned on the transverse surfaces for supporting the sides of the membrane and are in sliding contact with the slide plate. The slide plate and base members are formed of polymeric materials preferably having thermal expansion characteristics similar to concrete. The system elements occupy a blockout having a depth of one inch or less. The polymeric material can be readily bent on site making the system particularly useful for stadiums, etc. which have continuously changing elevations.

  • Patent number: 5067297
Abstract: An improved expansion-joint cover assembly of the type having a first base member secured to a first structural section and a second base member secured to a second structural section and a flexible-spring cover member coupled between said base members and overlying the open joint. The improvement comprising an interchangeable trim strip portion removably secured to the end of a first wall defining a passageway in said second base to receive the free end of said cover member and an interchangeable spring support removably secured to the end of the second wall defining such passageway. The spring support includes a support tip which engages the cover member and forces it into intimate contact with the trim strip supporting such cover member and holding it in its closed position.

  • Patent number: 5060439
Abstract: Expansion joint cover assemblies are disclosed which are structured and dimensioned for use in covering expansion joints or spaces between adjacent structural sections of a building such as spaced floors or floor and wall sections. The assemblies include base members adapted to be positioned and secured to the adjacent structural sections and a leaf spring cover member fixedly interconnected to one of the base members at one end and bridging the expansion joint or space between the structural sections in a cantilever manner such that the cover member lies in a plane essentially flush with the floor section or sections and is structured and dimensioned to be slidably interconnected with the other base member to provide a secure, functionally effective and aesthetically pleasing assembly for accommodating translational relative movement of the structural sections.
