Abstract: A method and apparatus for use with folding machines of the type having a score roll for scoring sheet material which has been coated and/or printed with ink and the like. The method includes, and the apparatus provides for, heating the score roll to a sufficiently high temperature (generally 150.degree.-400.degree. F.) for softening or otherwise tempering the coating material and/or ink for precluding, or minimizing, unsightly damage resulting from cracking of the coating during scoring and creasing, bending or folding of the sheet material along the score line.
