  • Patent number: 11035194
Abstract: Conveying a replaceable assembly between latched and unlatched configurations with an outer housing can include connecting the replaceable assembly to a running tool, so the assembly can be conveyed with the running tool, and disconnecting the assembly from the running tool. At least one of the connecting and disconnecting steps can include actuating an iris mechanism. A pressure control device can include an annular seal and a latch that releasably secures the annular seal relative to an outer housing, the latch including a grip member that grips a surface and prevents relative rotation. Another pressure control device can include an annular seal connected to and rotatable with an inner mandrel, and a bearing that permits relative rotation between the annular seal and the outer housing. A structure rotates with the inner mandrel, the structure including a flow inductive profile exposed to a bearing lubricant flow path.

  • Patent number: 11035338
Abstract: A progressing cavity device operates as a motor to impart torque to a bit. A stator of the device defines an internal profile having uphole stages with a first dimension being less than a second dimension of downhole stage. A rotor has an external profile with a constant outer dimension along its length. Disposed in the stator, the rotor defines cavities with the stator and is rotatable with pumped fluid progressing in the cavities from the uphole to downhole to transfer torque to the drive toward the downhole end. Although the rotor is subjected at the downhole end to a reactive torque from the bit, the interference fit of the rotor's constant dimension with the stator's downhole stages is less than with the uphole stages, which can mitigate issues with heat buildup in the downhole stages. The device can also operates as a progressing cavity pump.

  • Patent number: 11021930
Abstract: A diverter tool reduces surge pressure when running casing into a wellbore. The tool is kept open while running the casing so surge pressure can pass out a bypass port. The tool is then closed with a ball that lands in a seat disposed in an interposed condition in a sleeve of the tool's housing. Fluid pressure applied against the seat in the interposed condition engaged with the ball overcomes a first fixture temporarily holding the sleeve open. The fluid pressure shifts the freed sleeve closed. Additional fluid pressure applied against the seat with the captured ball then overcomes a second fixture temporarily holding the seat in the sleeve. Once freed, the seat with the captured ball pivots from the interposed condition to a stowed condition to expose the internal bore of the sleeve to the longitudinal bore of the tool so additional cementing operations can be performed.

  • Patent number: 10961815
Abstract: An apparatus and method are disclosed for wet shoe applications in cementing tubing in a wellbore. A wet shoe tool has a seat and an insert in a flow bore of the tool. A first wiper plug is deployed down the tubing at least behind the cement and seats on the insert, which can then be moved in the flow bore to a bypass position allowing for fluid flow through the tool to produce a wet shoe track. A second plug is deployed down the tubing behind the second plug and seats on the seat in the flow bore of the tool. The seated second plug isolates applied pressure from passing downhole end of the tool so the integrity of the tubing can be tested. The second plug is self-removable (e.g., dissolvable) in the tool to reestablish fluid communication through the flow bore of the tool.
