  • Patent number: 5988736
Abstract: A motor vehicle roof with a series of sliding louvers for selectively closing or at least partially exposing a roof opening in a fixed roof surface, in which the louvers abut one another in the closed position and form a flat interconnected louver assembly that is guided along guides such that, when the louvers are displaced in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, the louver assembly executes translational movement which causes the assembly to be separate on a louver by louver basis by pivoting each individual louver forward in an opening direction, and to be re-established when the roof is closed. Each louver (10a-10e) in the closed position is sealed on each side of the roof opening by a hollow chamber seal (30) that has a sealing surface (36) which is engaged by the louver side edges (37).

  • Patent number: 5897160
Abstract: The invention relates to a motor vehicle roof with cover elements which are joined on each of their narrow sides to a pivotable attachment element which is guided along a guideway attached to the roof. Adjacent attachment elements are coupled for joint movement in the opening and closing direction so long as neither is in a fully swung-out position, and are decoupled, one by one as each of the adjacent attachment elements reaches its fully swung-out position. In the decoupled state, the adjacent attachment elements can be moved against one another as they are fully swung-out. An attachment element in the fully swung-out position is locked securely on the roof under the influence of the opening motion of an adjacent attachment element by a respective pivotable locking element, and is automatically released under the influence of the closing motion of the other adjacent attachment elements.

  • Patent number: 5836642
Abstract: Vehicle roof with cover strips for closing or exposing of a roof opening, the strips bordering one another in the closed position and forming a planar integrated system of strips, each cover strip having a respective pivoting attachment element which is guided along a guideway attached to the roof, adjacent attachment elements being coupled for joint movement in the opening and closing direction, as long as they are not fully swung out, and being decoupled as soon as one of the two has reached its fully swung-out position. In the decoupled state, the adjacent attachment elements engage one another so that they can be moved against one another while the not yet fully swung-out attachment element is being swung out. The rearmost cover strip engages a guide element, such that it can be moved relative to it along a fixed path.

  • Patent number: 5793173
Abstract: An actuation device for motor vehicle parts that are movable by an electric motor, in particular for window regulators and sliding roofs that are driven by a reversible electric motor. This actuation device has a setpoint value device for the desired position of the movable part, an incremental actual-value device for producing a signal corresponding to the actual position of the movable part, an absolute actual value device which emits first and second signals that are positionally fixed relative to the incremental actual-value device, and a microprocessor to compare the setpoint and actual value signals and to perform control and regulation programs. The signal emitted by the absolute actual-value device changes only at predetermined position values and the absolute actual-value device has position zones which are separated from one another by these position values that can be predetermined. The first and last position zones are each defined by a first or second end position of the movable part.

  • Patent number: 5775769
Abstract: A motor vehicle roof with a cover (3) which can be activated by means of cover mechanism (6) and which selectively closes an opening (2) in a fixed roof surface (1) or at least partially exposes the opening (2) by being raised at its rear edge, achieves increased safety against the cover being forced out to the top and enables the vehicle roof to be configured so as to eliminate height adjustment, by the cover (3) resting in the closed state with both its front edge (4) and its rear edge (5) underlying the fixed roof surface (1). Advantageously, a pretensioning force is exerted by the cover (3) on the fixed roof (1), so that one of these two parts impresses its outline on the other.

  • Patent number: 5769483
Abstract: A convertible vehicle roof with a rigid rear roof part (7) and with a rigid rear part (8) which adjoins rear roof part (7), can be moved together with other roof parts (side roof parts 5, cover 6) into a stowage space (19) located in the rear of a vehicle. Compared to known hardtop vehicle roofs, the structure, mounting, sealing and insensitivity to tolerances are improved by the fact that the rear part (8) can be swung forwardly over the rear roof part (7) before they are moved together into the stowage space.

  • Patent number: 5764008
Abstract: Drive device for closing parts in motor vehicles, especially sliding roofs, sliding/lifting roofs, and the like, with a drive motor, a sensor for determining the actual rpm of the drive motor and a clamping protection means for disengaging or for reversing the direction of rotation of the drive motor when the danger of clamping of the closing parts arises. The device has a speed controller which delivers an actuating signal which is a function of the deviation of the actual speed from a set speed of the drive motor. The drive device also includes an actuating means for varying the supply voltage delivered to the drive motor depending on the actuating signal of the speed controller, and an evaluation means which triggers the clamping protection means and which determines the existence of incipient clamping based on a signal which is dependent on the actuating signal of the speed controller.

Abstract: A vehicle roof with a roof panel (3) that can be pivoted to open, with a window shade (7) that is located under the roof panel (3) for alternately covering or at least partially uncovering the roof panel (3). The window shade (7) can be wound on a roller (8) and is connected to at least one rigid element (10, 24, 25) that runs crosswise to the direction of movement of the shade and is guided in longitudinally running lateral guide elements (11). To reduce the structural height of the vehicle roof or to increase the headroom for the passengers, guide elements (11) for the window shade are raised by a lifting mechanism (14) when window shade (7) is moved in a closing direction and are lowered when it is moved in an opening direction.

  • Patent number: 5601330
Abstract: A vehicle roof with two cover elements (2, 3) which selectively close or at least partially expose a roof opening. The front cover element is formed as a wind deflector strip (2) which can be pivot around a pivot axis forming pin (4) located near its front edge and which can be raised at its rear edge above the fixed vehicle roof (1). The rear cover element is designed as sliding cover (3) which can be lowered under the fixed vehicle roof (1) by means of a lowering mechanism and which can be moved under the fixed vehicle roof (1) on slide elements (20, 33) which can be moved along guide rails (18) which are secured to the roof. The wind deflector strip (2) and sliding cover (3) can be actuated by means of a common drive (drive cable 27). At each lateral side of the roof, the sliding cover (3) has front and rear slide elements (20, 33) to which the lowering mechanism is coupled for forced actuation of the two cover elements which, however, is independent of time.
