  • Patent number: 4608834
Abstract: An air-conditioning system for vehicles, that can be retrofit installed into a roof ventilation opening, a roof ventilation assembly, with an extremely low overall height above the roof of the vehicle, as a substitute for a hatch of the ventilation assembly provided for the closing and opening of the roof ventilation opening. The system has a receiving part that can be attached instead of the hatch without modification to the roof opening or hinge assembly for the hatch. The receiving part has a circulating-air intake device that is separated from the delivery side of a blower that is disposed in a recessed central area of the receiving part that can be inserted through the roof opening to below the level of the roof. The air-conditioning system, as a whole, by means of the hinge assembly of the ventilation system, can be moved in such a way that, also, a direct ventilation via the roof opening is possible.

  • Patent number: 4592207
Abstract: An air conditioning system for roof mounting on motor vehicles having a compact design, and a favorable ratio of performance density, whereby such air conditioning system is cost-effective for retrofit and maintenance purposes. The air conditioning system has a large surface condenser block of the condenser part, arranged between the evaporator blocks of the evaporator part, resulting in a nest effect design of the condenser part and evaporator part. In order to ensure low resistance discharge of the condenser part's exhaust, and to further ensure uniform admission of circulating air to the entire height and length of the evaporator block, a specifically designed trough-shaped housing part is provided, which serves to transversely separate the evaporator part and the condenser part. Such a design of the air conditioning system reduces the dimensions of the assembly's height extending above the vehicle roof to a minimum.

  • Patent number: 4590888
Abstract: A water heater having a burner unit and a combustion chamber from which the combustion gases are discharged and deflected into an annular out-flow space through which they flow along a heat exchanger to an exhaust outlet in the area of the burner unit. The outer casing of the heat exchanger is made of plastic and together with a metal inner casing define a ring-shaped space through which water flows as a liquid heat transfer medium. The outer casing made of plastic is connected with the inner casing made of metal in a gas-tight and pressure-resistant way that is also stable with respect to temperature changes. The result is a reduction in weight of the water heater because of the formation of the outer casing of plastic, and the efficiency of the water heater can be improved by the fact that the losses through heat radiating from the outer casing can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 4585981
Abstract: A device for driving a motor-operated closure part for an opening, especially on a motor vehicle, having a protective circuit for interrupting the closing movement when there is an indication that an object may be obstructing closure of the opening. A speed transmitting means exists that detects the adjusting speed of the closing part on at least one range of the adjusting path of the closure part that is critical with respect to the engagement of an obstruction. In addition, an evaluating stage is provided that responds to the speed signal and/or its rate of change with respect to time, for producing an obstruction signal that activates a control means of the circuit to interrupt the closing movement.

  • Patent number: 4570992
Abstract: A tilt-out roof for vehicles having a closure panel arranged in the area of an opening in the roof of the vehicle. A frame extends around the edge of the opening in the roof, and a telescopic jack, that is used for the lifting and lowering of the rear part of the cover, is connected to the frame, on the one hand, and to the closure panel, on the other hand. The telescopic jack has several threaded parts that engage with one another, one of which is connected with a turning handle. The turning handle has a rotary plate that establishes the connection with one threaded part and closes the telescopic jack toward the bottom, and a separate handle rim that is detachably connected with the rotary plate. The rotary plate acts to hold the threaded parts of the jack in a predetermined relationship with respect to one another when the handle rim is detached.

  • Patent number: 4556835
Abstract: An operating system for movable parts for the selective closing or exposing of openings, especially for sliding roofs and sliding/lifting roofs of motor vehicles. The operating mechanism has a motor drive for the movable part and an actuating member for starting the drive, if required. In order to facilitate, especially, the bringing of the movable part into intermediate positions, the actuating member is developed as a desired-value transmitter for the position of the movable part, and the drive is part of a control circuit which compares the position selected at the desired-value transmitter with the actual position of the movable part and adjusts the movable part until the deviation has become zero.

  • Patent number: 4553697
Abstract: A system for supplying motor vehicle diesel engines with fuel, having a fuel circulation system with a fuel supply pipe leading from a fuel tank, via at least one fuel filter, to an injection pump driven by the diesel engine; a fuel return pipe leading back to the fuel tank; a fuel-circulating pump that can be driven electrically and is not dependent on the operation of the diesel engine; and a heat exchanger for causing heat exchange between the fuel flowing through the fuel supply pipe and a liquid heat-transfer medium. Also, when the diesel engine is stopped, the fuel-circulating pump can be driven from an on-board power source. The fuel circulation system is arranged in such a way that, when the fuel-circulating pump is in operation, it is flushed by circulated fuel throughout its full length. An auxiliary heater located in the fuel circulation system may be used as a source of heat for the heat exchanger, as well as the vehicle interior, when the engine is not operating.

  • Patent number: 4537442
Abstract: A vehicle roof of the type having a cover that closes a roof open and is slidably and tiltably displaceable out of a position closing the roof opening is constructed to avoid the problem of making the outside contour of the cover match the outside contour of the fixed roof part, particularly, with respect to contours that convexly curve in a direction transverse to the cover displacement direction. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, this problem is solved by adjusting the transverse contour of the cover, when the cover is in its closed position, through a balancing of upward and downward forces effected by a rain gutter and respective pivot mechanisms for the cover and gutter.

  • Patent number: 4531777
Abstract: A motor vehicle roof arrangement having a cover that can be slid and/or tilted out with respect to an opening in the roof. The cover is movable by means of an electric motor through at least one incompressible driving cable. The electric motor is mounted at a front side of the opening in the roof on a stationary part of the roof, and by means of a secondary drive wheel of an intermediate drive, drives a pinion that is engaged in the driving cable. The pinion is arranged in a front rain groove of a roof frame essentially on the center longitudinal axis of the roof of the motor vehicle. The intermediate drive is located in a gear housing to which the electric motor is flanged to form a drive unit. A secondary drive gear of the intermediate drive is detachably connected with a shaft of the pinion by mating internal and external gear elements.

  • Patent number: 4519772
Abstract: A heating device fed with free-flowing fuel and connected to an on-board voltage source, in particular, a vehicle heater. The heating device is equipped with a burner assembly which has a fuel supply, a combustion air fan and a heating element which ignites a fuel/air mixture after a preheating phase. During the preheating phase, the combustion fuel fan is shut off or at least is operated at less than the operating blower output. There is also a switching device which automatically turns on or switches the combustion air fan to its operating blower output after a preheating phase has been completed. The switching device is designed as a voltage-dependent time-function element, which presets a preheating time dependent upon the magnitude of the on-board voltage and which decreases the preheating time as the on-board voltage increases.
