Abstract: A variable attenuator assembly (1) includes a variable attenuating connector (VAC) (11), a coupling sleeve (12), and a second plug-type connector (13). The VAC includes a housing (20) and an attached double screw mechanism (110). The double screw mechanism is finely adjustable because it uses an adjusting knob (40) having a set of external threads (401) and a set of internal threads (402) with two different screw pitches. The external threads engage with an internally threaded bore (303) of a connecting nut (30) attached to the housing. The internal threads engage with outer threading (602) on a ferrule holder (60) received in the adjusting knob. When the adjusting knob is rotated, the knob moves in one direction, and the ferrule holder is moved in the opposite direction, the total distance of ferrule holder movement relative to the housing being proportional to the difference between the screw pitches.

  • Publication number: 20030081319
Abstract: A tunable filter (4) includes a thin film filter (2) and an electric controller (3). The thin film filter includes a transparent substrate (28) and a thin film filter stack (20). The thin film filter stack is constructed as a Fabry-Perot etalon, including a central spacer (26) and two multi-reflective layers (22, 24) respectively on opposite sides of the spacer. One multi-reflective layer is an H(LH)P−1 film system, the other multi-reflective layer is an (HL)P−1H film system. The spacer includes a transparent dielectric film having an optical thickness equal to one half of a predetermined transmitting central wavelength. The transparent dielectric film is made of piezoelectric material whose optical thickness is controllably variable. The controller receives and analyzes optical signals, and automatically controls the thin film filter stack to allow passage of the transmitting central wavelength. The control is achieved by adjusting an optical thickness of the central spacer.

  • Publication number: 20020130428
Abstract: A method for manufacturing a protective lens (10) for a display is disclosed. The protective lens includes a transparent glass substrate (12) and a piece of filtering film (14) attached to the glass substrate. A plurality of parallel ink stripes (16) being formed on a surface of the film is distributed symmetrically from middle to opposite sides of the film in a predetermined pattern. The method includes: providing a mold (20) having a plurality of recesses (24) formed by etching a surface of the mold; filling the recesses of the mold with ink; positioning an elastically deformable body (50) on the mold or attaching the ink in the recesses to the elastically deformable body; positioning the elastically deformable body on a membrane (60) to transfer the ink to the membrane, thus forming the film; attaching the film to a surface of the glass substrate.
