    Abstract: An abrasive disc mounting assembly for attaching an abrasive disc to a rotary motor drive. The assembly includes a backing pad with a front face and a rear surface. A tapered recess is formed in the front face and extends into the backing pad, the recess having a flat base at its inward end. A hole is formed in the recess and extends through the backing pad from the base to the rear surface. The hole is centered within the recess. A grinder spindle is sized to fit within the hole. The spindle has threads formed on one end. The assembly also includes a nut with a shape that is complementary to the shape of the recess so that the nut seats within the recess. The recess and nut include anti-rotational features that prevent one from rotating relative to the other as the nut seats within the recess.

    Abstract: The present invention is a rotary brushing tool and method of constructing the rotary brushing tool. The rotary brushing tool comprises a hub portion and a wheel portion. The hub portion has a pair of hub elements, where each hub element includes a central opening, an annular retaining plate portion that extends radially from the central opening, and a tubular portion that extends axially from the central opening. Placing the tubular portions of the hub elements in opposition forms a hub channel that extends radially from the central opening. The wheel portion includes bristles arranged in the hub channel to extend substantially radially from the central opening, and a castable material for retaining the bristles. Pouring the castable material into the hub channel and allowing it to cure, forms a hub that retains the bristles.

The shaft hub mount includes a shaft sleeve with an annular sleeve ring on it. An annular locking ring is biased against the sleeve ring and includes a locking tab that slides into a locking slot in the sleeve ring. The tool adapter includes a lock sleeve adapted to slide between the annular locking ring and the shaft sleeve. The lock sleeve has a locking finger this slides into a recess slot in the locking slot when the tool adapter mount is engaged with the shaft hub mount.

    Abstract: A flap disc for surface finishing a V-shaped work piece. The disc includes a backing plate and a plurality of abrasive flaps that are mounted on first and second sides of the backing plate. The abrasive flaps are radially disposed on the backing plate, each abrasive flap having an outer surface and an inner surface. A portion of the inner surface is adhesively attached to the backing plate. A second portion of the inner surface is disposed on the outer surface of an adjacent abrasive flap in an overlapping fashion so as to position the outer surface of the abrasive flap at an angle to the backing plate. The outer surfaces of the abrasive flaps on the first and second sides of the backing plate face in the same circumferential direction and taper radially toward one another to define a substantially V-shaped finishing surface.

    Abstract: A drive system for engaging a small diameter abrasive disc with a power tool. The drive system includes an arbor which is adapted to engage the power tool. The arbor includes a shaft portion formed on one end and external threads formed on the other end. The external threads have a first pitch. The drive system also includes an abrasive disc backing plate which has a mount extending outward from the backing plate on one side of the backing plate. The mount has internal threads formed on it for threadingly engaging the threads formed on the arbor. The engagement of the threads in the mount with the threads on the arbor providing a rigid attachment for facilitating rotation of the disc by the power tool when the arbor is engaged with the power tool. The threads on the mount having a second pitch which is different from the first pitch. The difference in pitch locking the backing plate into engagement with the arbor.
