Abstract: A clutch actuation system for a magnetic diskette drive includes a two-part mechanism with a door driven pawl, pawl spring and clutch load spring all arranged generally co-planarly with a clutch lever in a limited vertically disposed mechanism compartment; such two-part mechanism being operated upon access door movement to provide combined functions of a door stop, door open return and spring loading of the clutch in its disc drive position.
Abstract: A method is disclosed for accurately registering read-write heads on a magnetic storage medium. It includes the steps of ascertaining fractional departures of track locations from the nominal locations; providing a control for a motor connected to move a read-write head capable of detecting and storing fractional values of the nominal channel spacing; and coupling the control digitally to a stepping motor or servomotor so as to drive the read-write head accurately to the actual position of any selected track. Also, apparatus for practicing the method, various apparatus being disclosed.
