  • Publication number: 20030161698
Abstract: In a method of machining a first and a second surface recess in a workpiece, the workpiece has a longitudinal axis and a first local Cartesian coordinate system. The machine tool has a longitudinal axis and a second local Cartesian coordinate system, the first and second surface recess are associated with a first and second recess longitudinal axis and a non-circular cross-section. The recesses are separated on the surface of the workpiece such that they are mirror images of each other about a plane along the longitudinal workpiece axis. A skew angle is defined between the first recess longitudinal axis and the workpiece axis in the first plane.

  • Patent number: 6583883
Abstract: In a method for measuring a rotary tool use is made of a measuring device, which has an optoelectronic image acquisition device with optics alignable with the rotary tool and an image processing device for the computer-aided evaluation of acquired images. For measurement purposes a section of the rotary tool is brought into the image area of the optics and the rotary tool is rotated about its rotation axis. During rotation a sequence of frames of the rotating rotary tool is acquired. An evaluation of the frames is carried out with respect to at least one image parameter, which represents a measure for the positioning of the tool contour relative to the sharpness zone of the optics. By computer-aided selection a selection is made of the particular frame in which the image parameter corresponds to a positioning of the tool contour in the sharpness zone of the optics. This selected frame is used for determining at least one tool parameter characterizing the tool contour.

  • Patent number: 5259568
Abstract: An optical system utilized to provide guidance information in the form of a modulated beam for a beamrider missile during its rocket powered flight phase. Our system comprises first and second zoom type optical subsystems arranged to function cooperatively in object space, utilizing coincident lines of sight, with these optical subsystems serving to provide guidance information to the missile when the exhaust plume from its rocket engine is relatively difficult to penetrate. The first optical subsystem is utilized in a closed loop servo system for positioning a mirror gimballed about two axes, such that it continuously tracks the missile. The second optical subsystem, along the optical axis of which the modulated beam is directed, comprises a negative optical group and a positive optical group combined into a defocusable beam expander.

  • Patent number: 5174070
Abstract: A method and a device for preventing thermal damage of workpieces during grinding are provided. According to the inventive method a two-flank rolling test is performed via a master pinion before the grinding process. The result of this two-flank rolling test is then used to calculate an effective maximum amount of material to be removed. Based on a permissible amount of material to be removed per time unit for the respective grinding tool a permissible rate of advancement of the grinding tool is calculated with the determined effective maximum amount of material to be removed. The calculated rate of advancement is then fed into the machine control unit.

  • Patent number: 5174068
Abstract: The present invention discloses a method and a device for preventing thermal damage of workpieces due to heat developed by a grinding process. According to the method the temperature increase at the surface being ground is determined and the resulting actual value is compared to a reference value which has been established under the same grinding parameters with a grinding disk that caused thermic damage to the reference workpiece. During manufacture, the grinding process with the respective grinding disk is interrupted as soon as a temperature increase has been detected that corresponds to the respective temperature causing thermic damage. The reference value is determined such that it includes a certain safety margin. The determination of the actual value and the reference value may be accomplished by using geometric deformations of the workpiece that result from the temperature increase due to the grinding process.

  • Patent number: 5076138
Abstract: When cartridges are delivered from a stationary cartridge magazine to an elevatable firing weapon, it is customary to use a deflection or guidance unit, by which the cartridges can be reliably delivered to the elevatable firing weapon in every position of the latter. The cartridges are delivered to the elevatable firing weapon in a telescopic guide or infeed channel. With large elevation of the elevatable firing weapon, this telescopic guide channel is substantially contracted. On the other hand, this telescopic guide channel is substantially extended when the elevation of the elevatable firing weapon is relatively small. In the telescopic guide channel there is provided a bucket chain for conveying cartridges. The individual buckets of this bucket chain are interconnected by knee joints, so that the bucket chain can likewise be extended and contracted. One end of the telescopic guide channel is mounted at the stationary cartridge magazine and the other end is mounted at the elevatable firing weapon.

  • Patent number: 5052761
Abstract: In load-dependent brake valves it is customary to control the brake force as a function of the stroke of vehicular suspension springs. If the stroke of the vehicular suspension springs is not proportional to the vehicle load, there is the risk that either the empty vehicle or the full vehicle is too strongly braked. This can be avoided in that a pivotable brake lever is pivotable as a function of the stroke of the vehicular suspension springs, the pivotable brake lever comprising a first pivoting range in which a first edge of a piston of the load-dependent brake valve is supported and a second pivoting range in which a second edge of the aforesaid piston is supported. It is thereby achieved that the brake force is always proportional to the vehicle load.

  • Patent number: 5009136
Abstract: A centerless turning machine for rods. The machine includes a cutter-head mounted at the front end of a rotating hollow shaft, and further includes a plurality of advancing rollers of an infeed device operatively mounted at the inlet end of the turning machine. The turning machine further includes a front guide mechanism and a rear guide mechanism, respectively mounted on opposite sides of the cutter head, and also includes a clamping carriage which is mounted on the outlet side of the turning machine. The rear guide mechanism takes the form of a tubular support which is provided with a flange mounted in the machine housing and which extends into the rotating hollow shaft. The rear guide mechanism has, at its free end, which protrudes into the hollow shaft, three individually spring biased guide elements for the rod. The springs for each individual guide element form a first resilient abutment for each guide element. The movements of the three guide elements are synchronized by a rotatable ring.

  • Patent number: 5000632
Abstract: For manufacturing a pinion of a pair of mating bevel gears having contact-line tooth bearing or crowning in accordance with the method developed by Litvin et al, the cutter radii of respective outer and inner blade edges in the duplex or double-cut method and therewith the centers of rotation of the cutter heads as well as the center of rotation of a generating gear are altered in relation to the settings for manufacturing the mating or meshing gear. This would require cutter heads provided with adjustable cutter radii. In order to render possible the use of commercially available cutter heads, provision is made for achieving the alternation of the cutter radii by inclination of the cutter-head axes.
