Abstract: An apparatus for coating such as printing objects transports the objects through treatment stations along a transport path using at least one transport means. The transport means is in the form of an endless flexible belt which circulates in a vertical plane and which is provided at its outer surface with holding means for the objects to be decorated. The holding means are in the form of flexible portions of plastic material which are connected to the belt. The belt and the holding means are provided with at least one opening connectable to a reduced pressure source in such a way that the reduced pressure acts on an object in the respective holding means and fixes it in its position.

Abstract: A method for cleaning a work surface (22) of a torch (10) which serves for flame treatment of objects (12), in which the cleaning of the work surface (22) is performed during operation of the torch (10) in several phases in a time succession, and in that only a fraction (40) of the work surface is cleaned in each phase.

Abstract: To increase the throughput capacity when decorating objects, an apparatus and method include at least two transport carriages which are respectively moved by a drive device and on each of which is mounted a respective holder for carrying at least one object. The apparatus has at least one decorating station. The holder of a transport carriage is mounted thereto, movable perpendicularly to the direction of movement of the transport carriage. The at least two transport carriages are guided in at least portion-wise manner on mutually separate carriage tracks.

Abstract: In an apparatus for decorating stiff articles using a screen printing process, an object carried by an object carrier and the stencil are advanced synchronously along a transport path during a printing operation. A doctor co-operable with the stencil is movable in an opposite relationship to the direction of movement of the stencil and the object. In the region of the at least one screen printing station is a transport screw with at least one screw flight as a drive for the object carrier, which is in engagement with the screw flight of the screw. During a printing operation the object carrier with object, on the one hand, and the stencil, on the other hand, pass synchronously through an acceleration phase and a deceleration phase. The printing stroke of the stencil is less than the total stroke thereof in the direction of movement of the object carrier.

Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for printing on material in web form print images are successively applied to the web by a transfer cylinder. The web is continuously drawn into the printing station and the speed at which the web is moved in the printing station during a printing operation is greater than the speed at which it is drawn into the printing station. After the printing operation the web is positioned in the printing station for the following printing operation relative to the transfer cylinder which is not in contact with the web during a part of a revolution of 360°, and at the same time the path of the web is altered in accordance with the change in the speed thereof. The web is driven by the impression cylinder which is associated with the transfer cylinder and around the peripheral surface of which the web partially passes. Positioning of the web for the respectively following printing operation is implemented by a change in the rotary movement of the impression cylinder.

Abstract: In an apparatus for decorating stiff objects, the objects are transported stepwise along an arcuate conveyor path. Printing stations and drying stations are arranged alternately along the conveyor path with the printing stations at a level above the conveyor path and the drying stations at a level below the conveyor path. Holders for the objects are reciprocatable upwardly and downwardly to permit vertical movements of the objects during the printing operation and/or for setting the objects in different heightwise positions in different stations. The holders for the objects are subdivided into first and second groups, wherein the holders of each group are adjustable in respect of height independently of the holders of the respective other group. The printing stations are screened from view in relation to the drying stations by screening members.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for the exposure of printing plates for a printing mechanism, wherein the respective printing plate is mounted to a cylinder. Two exposure stations each have a holder for the respective cylinders, with which there is associated a common laser optical system mounted reciprocably between the two exposure stations. A carriage carrying the laser optical system is reciprocable with a movement component parallel to the axis of rotation of the cylinder in the respective station. In each exposure station a support element is operable to support a shaft carrying the respective cylinder, the support element being reciprocatingly slidable between a first position in which it supports the shaft near an end thereof and a second position in which it releases the shaft.

Abstract: A holder is provided for holding an article in a machine for decorating articles, the holder including a base member, a format plate arranged releasably above the base member with an opening in the format plate for receiving the article, and an intermediate plate between the base member and the format plate. On its side facing the format plate the intermediate plate has a layer of soft material, such as a plastic film, to support the article. The intermediate plate and the format plate are easily releasably mounted on the base member. To replace the film, the intermediate plate with film can be removed from the holder and replaced by another intermediate plate carrying a fresh film.

Abstract: Described is an arrangement for feeding and/or taking away magazines intended to receive individual articles, to and/or from an apparatus for treating and/or handling the articles, wherein the apparatus comprises a first transport element which receives a supply of magazines for feeding articles to be treated, and a second transport element which receives a supply of magazines for carrying away treated articles, with the transport elements being arranged in mutually juxtaposed relationship and movable in a horizontal plane. A third transport element is operatively associated with the first and second transport elements and movable between a first position in which it is towards the first and second transport elements and at least one second position in which it is away from the first and second transport elements. The third transport element has at least one movable carrier for at least one magazine.

Abstract: An apparatus for printing on dimensionally stable individual articles has a conveyor for conveying the articles, along which printing stations and other treatment stations are arranged. CDs are fed in a magazine in the form of a stack to a separating station, individually separated, and then each fitted into a respective receiver of the conveyor. The printed articles are removed in a removal station from the respective receivers and fed to a magazine in a collecting station. A conveyor belt conveys the magazines both through the separating stations and also through the collecting station, the conveyor belt conveying the empty magazines from the separating station into the collecting station. At least one stepwise circulating transfer arrangement forms a second conveyor path along which are arranged the separating station, the respective receivers disposed in the receiving station for the printed article, and the collecting station.

Abstract: In a process and apparatus for decorating an article, printing ink or electrostatic charges is or are applied in dependence on a digital program in dot form to the article carried by a holder, with individual dots going together to at least form a partial pattern or image. In the case of the latent pattern formed by electrostatic charges, it is then brought into contact with ink particles to form the decoration. In both cases the article is transported along a transportation path through at least one print station provided with an inkjet print head or an ionographic print head, the print head being controllable in dependence on the digital program. The individual nozzles or the electrodes of the respective print head are actuated in accordance with the digital program which is called up for example in dependence on the transportation movement of the article.

Abstract: A device for use in a rotary printing machine having at least one printing mechanism including a plate cylinder which can be releasably mounted on a shaft carrying the plate cylinder. The plate cylinder and the shaft can be oriented both axially and also in the peripheral direction relative to the shaft and thus relative to the article to be printed. When the plate cylinder and the shaft are oriented as desired, the plate cylinder is capable of being fixedly attached to the shaft. The plate cylinder can be fixed in the peripheral direction and in the axial direction.

Abstract: In a process and apparatus for decorating a flat self-supporting article which is turned for decoration thereof on both sides, the article is firstly removed from a horizontal position in an article holder by being lifted by a first pivoting means and then pivoted into a vertical intermediate position from which the article is moved by a second pivoting means producing a pivoting movement of the article into a horizontal position with its previously upward surface facing downwardly. The article is then lowered into an article holder again.

Abstract: An apparatus for decorating articles has at least one article carrier which is movable along a transport path through treatment stations and which is connected to a vacuum source at least over a portion of the transport path for holding an article in the article carrier by the vacuum. A stationary vacuum duct is arranged along at least a portion of the transport path, to make a connection between the vacuum source and the article carrier. At least one vacuum conduit in the article carrier is connected to the vacuum duct by way of a connecting conduit which is connected to the vacuum conduit in the article carrier and which is moved along the transport path. The vacuum duct is provided with an opening for the passage of the vacuum to the connecting conduit, the opening being movable along the vacuum duct.

Abstract: In an apparatus and method of decorating articles which are transported on article carriers through a treatment station along a transport path which is linear at least over a portion of its extent, the article carriers are transported through the linear portion of the transport path by a screw having a screw flight adapted to engage with a respective article carrier required to move along the linear portion of the transport path. Rotation of the screw advances the respective article carrier along the linear transport path portion. The screw preferably rotates at a constant speed so that changes in the speed of movement of the article carrier along the linear portion of the transport path are implemented by variations in the screw flight pitch over the length of the screw.

Abstract: In a method of printing on individual self-supporting articles, for example CDs, telephone cards or the like, using multi-color printing, the relative positions of the individual print images which make up a total print image on the article are set by a procedure whereby, after at least one individual print image has been printed on the article, the print image is detected by a camera system. The representation of the actual position of the individual print image relative to the article bearing it is compared in a computer to a representation of the reference position stored therein. In dependence on the result of the comparison, if the actual position deviates from the reference position, the position of the printing mechanism and/or the position of a following article is altered for the printing operation in accordance with the result of the comparison.

Abstract: An apparatus for decorating articles comprises a transport path with at least one decorating station, and at least one article carrier displaced by a circulating transport system along the transport path. The transport system circulates in a horizontal plane and comprises a plurality of rigid rack portions which are interconnected pivotably in the horizontal plane. The transport system is driven by way of a gear. The transport system is guided by guide rollers mounted on a connecting pivot connecting each two adjacent rigid rack portions and they co-operate with guide rails defining at least a portion of the transport path.

Abstract: An apparatus for printing on individual articles comprises a printing cylinder and an impression cylinder. When printing on articles with a cavity for accommodating for example a chip the wall region of the card which delimits the cavity has to be supported for printing on the side opposite the cavity. For that purpose the impression cylinder has a support portion engageable into the cavity when the article passes the impression cylinder. For converting the apparatus between printing procedures of different kinds the support portion is displaceable between an inoperative position and an operative position by displacement of the impression cylinder in the direction of rotation thereof so that in one basic angular position the support portion does not come into contact with the articles passing the impression cylinder during the printing operation and in another basic angular position the support portion engages into the cavity of the article.
