Abstract: A retractor device includes a housing including a back plate, a faceplate spaced apart from the back plate, and a sidewall extending between the back plate and the faceplate. The retractor device also includes a rotatable reel inside the housing, a spring biasing rotation of the rotatable reel in one direction, a tether wound around the rotatable reel, and an end fitting coupled to an end of the tether. A retainer of the housing is in contact with the end fitting when the end fitting is in the retracted position. The retractor device also includes at least one bearing inside the housing proximate to the retainer, and first and second extension openings in the sidewall of the housing on opposite sides of the retainer. The tether is configured to engage the bearing when the tether is extended through one of the first and second extension openings.

Abstract: A tethered pouch adapted to carry an device, tool or equipment, has a shell with a proximal opening that leads to an interior pocket, wherein the shell is constructed of a first material and a second material where the second material may be configured as a viewing window and the shell has at least one access opening configured to receive a digit of a user's hand for contacting and operating the item, such as a mobile phone.

Abstract: A case for a tool having a pocket with a base panel, first and second side panels, first and second end panels, and first and second slots. A first strap having a first proximal end affixed to the pocket first and a first distal end and a second strap having a second proximal end affixed to the pocket and a second distal end. The first and second straps are configured to crisscross each other, and the first distal end is configured to pass through the first slot and the second distal end is configured to pass through the second slot.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a magnifier defines a longitudinal axis A. The magnifier includes an arm with a distal end and a proximal end. A magnifying pane is located at the distal end and an engagement member is located at the proximal end. In various embodiments, the arm includes a distal segment, a mid segment, and a proximal segment. The distal segment is generally linear having a length L1 projected onto the longitudinal axis and is angled about 45 degrees relative to the longitudinal axis A. The mid segment is generally concave having a length L2 projected onto the longitudinal axis A. The proximal segment that is curved having a length L3 projected onto the longitudinal axis A and is convergent relative to the longitudinal axis A.

Abstract: A cutting tool includes a blade assembly with two retractable, opposing blades in a handle shaped for comfortable gripping. The blades may be closed and stowed by being partially retracted into the handle with a continuous motion of a single hand. The blades may similarly be extended and deployed for use with a continuous motion of a single hand. Each blade is formed with a shearing edge and a lever arm. Each lever arm is formed with a slot for engaging a blade locking tab joined to a cover for the handle. When the blade assembly is retracted into the handle, the shearing edges of the blades remain safely closed when the lever arms are released by a person using the tool. The cutting tool includes a retractable tether for preventing loss or damage to the tool should it be dropped.

Abstract: A retractor carrying device is configured to carry a portable device. In one embodiment, the retractor carrying case includes a carrying case defining a pouch configured to receive the portable device through an opening in the carrying case. The retractor carrying case also includes a retractor assembly coupled to the carrying case and a tensile closure mechanism. The retractor assembly is configured to tether the portable device to the carrying case. The tensile closure mechanism is configured to extend across the opening in the carrying case to selectively retain the portable device in the pouch of the carrying case.

Abstract: A releasable attachment apparatus has multiple components that allow for easy storage, deployment and detachment of small portable items carried on the apparatus. In one embodiment, the apparatus has a retractable unit having a housing inside of which are a reel, a spring coil biasing rotation of the reel, and a tensile member carried on the reel. The housing has a female opening that fittingly receives a connector so that there is minimal swivel action in the connector and thus minimal strain on the tensile member when the tensile member is fully retracted in drawing the connector to a stored configuration with the retractable unit. The apparatus also includes a fastener that is adapted to carry the small portable items and is removably attached to the connector. The apparatus also includes a locking switch which is movable between a neutral position that allows rotation of the reel and a locking position which locks the reel against rotation.

Abstract: A portable camera steady device for use with a camera, having a retractable tensile member whose distal end can be stepped on by a user or hooked to her body or clothing. The device has a swivel mounting member providing two independent and generally perpendicular axes of rotation such that the tensile member extends tangentially from the reel and housing whether the camera is used in the landscape or portrait orientation. A switch is provided to control extension and retraction of the tensile member from a biased reel.
