  • Patent number: 4151275
Abstract: An improved iodine tincture is provided by incorporating therein a small amount, preferably about 0.25 to 2.5 parts, per part by weight of iodine, of povidone, 1-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone polymer. In these proportions , the povidone modified tincture of iodine exhibits markedly reduced tendency to burn or sensitize skin areas on which it dries, is stable, and at the same time retains the essential germicidal activity of unmodified tincture of iodine. The new products can be formulated directly, or as concentrates yielding the improved tincture upon extension with a prescribed amount of aqueous-ethanolic diluent.

  • Patent number: 4093744
Abstract: This invention relates to new and improved means for killing spores on instruments and the like utilizing the combination of glutaraldehyde and a detergent selected from the group consisting of nonionic, anionic and ampholytic surface active agents. The sporicidal kill activity of glutaraldehyde is enhanced by said detergents.

  • Patent number: 4017407
Abstract: The improved approach to the direct formulation of solid iodine carriers containing poly (N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) and an iodide, as disclosed in copending application Ser. No. 360,338, has been extended to the direct formulation of solid products containing, in addition to the PVP and iodide, compatible additives such as nonionic detergent, anionic detergent, elemental iodine and mixtures thereof, as well as to the direct formulation of other solid iodine carriers.

  • Patent number: 3980766
Abstract: Drugs which are suitable for such therapy in treatment of narcotic drug addiction by oral use, e.g., methadone, are formulated to prevent injection abuse through concentration of the active component in aqueous solution by incorporating in a solid dosage or tablet form of such drug an ingestible solid having thickening properties which causes rapid increase in viscosity upon concentration of an aqueous solution thereof.

  • Patent number: RE28778
Abstract: Unique and novel phenolic synthetic detergent-disinfectant compositions are provided wherein the detergent component is an anionic detergent and the phenolic components thereof consist essentially of ortho phenylphenol in admixture with high activity and intermediate activity phenolics, the ratio of ortho phenylphenol to the high and intermediate activity phenolics being from about 4:1-1.1:1. When prepared as a use dilution, the ortho phenylphenol is present in an amount of at least about 450 p.p.m.When the ortho phenylphenol is employed only with the high activity phenolics, the preferred minimum amount of ortho phenylphenol should be at least about 600 p.p.m. and the ratio of the ortho phenylphenol to the high activity phenolics can then be from about 2.5:1-1.5:1 and, when used with intermediate activity phenolics at the same preferred minimum level, the ratio of the ortho phenylphenol to the intermediate activity phenolics can be from about 2.1:1-1.25:1.
