Abstract: A drug delivery device includes a compartment sized to receive a cartridge. The compartment includes a cartridge bay that opens so that a cartridge may be inserted into the cartridge bay and that closes when the cartridge is received by the compartment. The drug delivery device also includes a housing including an expanding assembly. The expanding assembly includes a driver supported from a distal end by a linear stabilizer that includes a bearing configured to push against the housing. The driver is rotated by a motor. The expanding assembly also includes two mid screws threadedly connected to the driver, a plunger driver threadedly connected to the two mid screws, and an anti-rotational guide that prevents rotation of the plunger driver.

Abstract: A liquid transfer device is described. The device comprises a connector body comprising a projection portion defining a tab and an IV port arranged at a first end of the connector body, the IV port comprising an elongate connecting member projecting therefrom and defining a cutout. The projection portion is configured to be received by the elongate connecting member, and the tab is configured to mate with the cutout so as to rotationally fix the IV port relative to the connector body.

Abstract: An injector includes a body, an injection needle movably mounted to the body and a pathway within the body sized for receiving either of a first cartridge or a differently dimensioned second cartridge therein. The pathway includes a coupler mounted at a distal end that is engageable with the first cartridge or the second cartridge for to fluidly connect with the injection needle. At least two adapter collars are mounted within the pathway. A first adapter collar is configured to receive either one of the two cartridges therethrough upon insertion into the pathway, and configured to engage a portion of the first cartridge to stabilize the first cartridge within the pathway. A second adapter collar is also configured to receive either one of the two cartridges therethrough upon insertion into the pathway, but configured to engage a portion of the second cartridge to stabilize the second cartridge within the pathway.

Abstract: A modular drive train is selectively securable within a wearable injector. The drive train includes a chassis and a telescoping driving assembly mounted within the chassis. The driving assembly includes a first shaft rotatable relative to the chassis, and a second shaft connected with the first shaft and axially movable relative thereto. Rotation of the first shaft axially drives the second shaft. The chassis includes one of a bearing and an elastically expandable collar projecting axially forward into the chassis from a rear end thereof, and the first shaft includes the other of the bearing and the elastically expandable collar projecting axially rearwardly from a rear end thereof. The collar is configured to elastically snap over an interference element of the bearing, whereby engagement of the collar with the bearing axially secures the first shaft to the chassis and permits rotation of the first shaft about the bearing.

Abstract: An injector includes an injector housing and a cartridge door movably mounted to the injector housing between a fully closed position and an open position. A latching mechanism is movable between a latched position, locking the cartridge door to the injector housing in the fully closed position thereof, and an unlatched position, unlocking the cartridge door from the injector housing, thereby enabling movement of the cartridge door toward the open position. The latching mechanism is oriented in the unlatched position when the cartridge door is empty and the latching mechanism is configured to move to the latched position solely when a cartridge is present in the cartridge door and the cartridge door is subsequently moved to the fully closed position thereof.

Abstract: In some embodiments a system and method are described for safeguarding a hazard. The hazard, for example a needle point, may be moved between a protected retracted position, an active extended position and/or an intermediate position. Optionally in the retracted position, the hazard may be protected inside a housing. Optionally in the extended position, the hazard may be exposed. Optionally, in the intermediate position the hazard may be partially protected and/or concealed, for example by a shield and/or in an indentation. In some embodiments, compromising a shield causes the hazard to be retracted to the retracted position.

Abstract: A liquid transfer device includes a vial adapter that receives a vial. The vial adapter includes a vial spike that punctures a vial stopper of the vial and defines a vial spike lumen. The liquid transfer device also includes an intravenous (IV) port that receives a port spike of an infusion set. The liquid transfer device also includes a connector body including a vial adapter lumen in fluid communication with the vial spike lumen, a barrel connected to the IV port, and an IV spike including a central wall. The central wall defines a first IV spike lumen in fluid communication with the vial adapter lumen and a second IV spike lumen in fluid communication with the IV port. The first IV spike lumen and the second IV spike lumen are separated by the central wall.

Abstract: Liquid transfer devices with an integral telescopic vial adapter for use with an infusion liquid container and an initially non-punctured intact discrete injection vial. The integral telescopic vial adapter is configured for initial telescopic snap mounting on a discrete injection vial leaving its injection vial stopper non-punctured until a subsequent compaction for puncturing the injection vial stopper. The integral telescopic vial adapter includes a safety catch mechanism for precluding advertent compaction from a pre-compacted state to a compacted state. The integral telescopic vial adapter includes a clamping arrangement for irreversibly clamping same in its final compacted state.

Abstract: An add-on for a self-injector including an adaptor and a bent fluid path is provided. The adaptor includes at least one coupling sized and shaped to couple the adaptor to a fluid reservoir. The bent fluid path is configured at a first end to penetrate tissue and coupled at a second end to the adaptor. The add-on coupled to the fluid reservoir forms an integral self-injector cartridge unit configured to be sterilized and filled with an injectable. The adaptor is configured to couple to a self-injector at least one of a plurality of reservoirs having different sizes and tip types.

Abstract: A drug delivery device, including: housing, wherein said housing defines an opening and a chamber for a drug cartridge; a movable door connected to the housing, having a range of movement between a fully open position and a closed position, wherein the door blocks access to said opening when the door is in said closed position; a biasing element connected to the housing or the door, wherein the biasing element is positioned to interfere with the movement of the door by applying an opening force to open the door when the range of movement of the door is near the closed position, thus defining an exclusion zone; and a locking mechanism between the door and the housing, the locking mechanism applies a locking force on the door greater and in an opposite direction to the force applied by the biasing element.

Abstract: An injector includes a needle movable from a retracted position to an injection position. A rotary biasing assembly is stabilized in a stored energy state and releasable into an energy releasing state and includes a cam. A cam follower couples the rotary biasing assembly with the needle and is configured to transform rotation of the rotary biasing assembly in the energy releasing state thereof into translation of the needle from the retracted position to the injection position. An activation switch is rotatable from an unactivated position, stabilizing the rotary biasing assembly in the stored energy state thereof, to an activated position, releasing the rotary biasing assembly into the energy releasing state thereof. An activation button is movably mounted to the injector housing and is translatable from an unactuated position to an actuated position, whereby the translation rotates the activation switch from the unactivated position to the activated position thereof.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for preventing a sharp stick hazard from a needle tip of an automatic injector device. In some embodiments, a skin contact surface of the device is attached to an injection site, for example by an adhesive. Optionally a locking mechanism holds a needle extended into an injection site. A body of the device is optionally movably attached to the skin contact surface. Pulling the body away from the injection site optionally moves the body with respect to the skin contact surface. Movement of the body with respect to the skin contact surface optionally moves interlinked parts of the locking mechanism, releasing the locking mechanism.

Abstract: Dual vial adapter assemblages having a triple component construction as follows: a first vented female vial adapter for telescopic mounting on a drug vial, a second vented female vial adapter for telescopic mounting on a liquid vial and a tubular liquid transfer coupler for coupling the first vented female vial adapter and the second vented female vial adapter for establishing a dual sealed lumen arrangement therebetween. The dual sealed lumen arrangement includes a central sealed liquid lumen for gravitational flow of liquid contents from a liquid vial to a drug vial and a sealed air lumen radial outward from the central sealed liquid lumen for venting air displaced from the drug vial to the liquid vial for assisting the gravitational flow of liquid contents by creating a closed system between the liquid vial and the drug vial.

Abstract: An injector is configured to receive therein a cartridge containing a substance to be dispensed. The injector includes an injector housing and an injector door movably mounted to the injector housing between a fully closed position and a fully open position. The injector door is initially locked in an at least partially closed position preventing insertion of the cartridge into the injector. The injector further includes a controller configured to conduct an initial self-test on operability of at least one component of the injector. The self-test has a single pass or fail outcome, wherein the injector door is unlocked and enabled to be moved into the fully open position, to enable insertion of the cartridge into the injector, solely upon achievement of the self-test pass outcome.

Abstract: An injector includes an injector housing, an activation button assembly movably mounted to the injector housing and operatively connected to the injection needle, and a cartridge door movably mounted to the injector housing between an open position and a closed position. A deflectable interference member engaging the rear end flange of the cartridge has a resting position configured to limit an insertion depth of a cartridge into an interior channel of the cartridge door to a sealed position, wherein the cartridge piercing needle does not fully penetrate a pierceable septum of the cartridge. The cartridge door includes an interior channel having a cartridge mounted therein. The cartridge includes a substance to be dispensed. The substance includes an anti-C5 antibody or antigen binding fragment thereof, and optionally further includes a recombinant human hyaluronidase enzyme. A method of treating a complement associated condition using an injector thereof.

Abstract: Apparatus is described for administering a substance to a subject. A vial contains the substance and a stopper is disposed within the vial and is slidably coupled to the vial. A first threaded element is (a) rotatable with respect to the vial and (b) substantially immobile proximally with respect to the vial during rotation of the first threaded element. A second threaded element is threadedly coupled to the first threaded element. At least a distal end of the second threaded element is substantially non-rotatable with respect to the vial, and the distal end of the second threaded element defines a coupling portion that couples the second threaded element to the stopper. The first threaded element, by rotating, linearly advances the stopper and at least the distal end of the second threaded element toward a distal end of the vial. Other embodiments are also described.

Abstract: An injector includes an injector housing, an activation button assembly translatable from an unactuated position to an actuated position and a cartridge door movably mounted to the injector housing between an open position and a closed position. A deflectable interference member has a resting position configured to limit an insertion depth of a cartridge into an interior channel of the cartridge door to a sealed position, wherein the cartridge piercing needle does not fully penetrate a pierceable septum of the cartridge. Movement of the activation button assembly from the unactuated position to the actuated position thereof, in the closed position of the cartridge door, deflects the interference element out of the resting position thereof, thereby enabling further advancement of the cartridge into the interior channel of the cartridge door to an unsealed position, wherein the cartridge piercing needle fully penetrates the pierceable septum.

Abstract: A syringe cartridge including a reservoir part and an extension extending from the reservoir part. The extension defining a fluid path and including a molding and a first needle extending from the molding. The extension turning to a finite angle with respect to an axis of the reservoir part and at least part of the first needle is likewise at the finite angle. At least some of the part of the first needle at the finite angle being enclosed within the molding of the fluid path. A drug delivery device may be used with the cartridge and includes a skin-contacting surface. In use the longitudinal axis of the interior of the cartridge may be disposed substantially parallel to the skin-contacting surface.

Abstract: An injector has a cartridge door movable between a fully closed position and a fully open position. A power supply is employed to power at least one power-operated component of the injector. A power supply circuit electrically connects the power supply with the at least one power-operated component. An electrically insulated arm is movable from a first state, in which the electrically insulated arm electrically disconnects the power supply from the circuit, to a second state, in which the electrically insulated arm connects the power supply with the circuit to provide power to the at least one power-operated component. The insulated arm is coupled to the cartridge door and initially positioned in the first state thereof in the fully closed position of the cartridge door, whereby movement of the cartridge door out of the fully closed position toward the fully open position moves the arm to the second state thereof.
