Patent number: 9494445Abstract: A system and method for planning fueling during a travel. The method comprises receiving information identifying a starting point and a destination for the travel; determining a route between the starting point and the destination; identifying one or more candidate fuel stations that are accessible from the route; determining scores for the one or more candidate fuel stations; and outputting information identifying the one or more candidate fuel stations along with their scores. Identifying one or more candidate fuel stations may include determining a search corridor; and identifying the one or more candidate fuel stations within the search corridor. Determining the search corridor may comprise selecting a search point located on the route; selecting a search radius; drawing a search circle with a radius equal to the search radius and centered at the search point; and including the search circle in the search corridor.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2014Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: WEX Inc.Inventor: John Lind Thomas

Patent number: 8457874Abstract: The invention, in one aspect, features a fuel and vehicle monitoring method. The method includes receiving, via a first processor, a first odometer value and a first fuel acquisition value for a vehicle at a first instance. The method also includes determining, with a second processor, whether the first odometer value satisfies a predetermined criterion. The method also includes forecasting a first future fuel economy value for the vehicle based on the first odometer value and the first fuel acquisition value and a plurality of previously received odometer values and fuel acquisition values if the predetermined criterion is satisfied, or the plurality of previously received odometer values and fuel acquisition values if the predetermined criterion is not satisfied.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2010Date of Patent: June 4, 2013Assignee: Wex Inc.Inventors: Venugopal R.
